I don't disagree with that but it does make me wonder how he treated people in doing his job when the remaining staff hold a party to celebrate his departure. However you look at it that isn't a sign of a company that has found any kind of good culture.
I have been in companies where a hatchet man has come in and in one case was a 'victim' but no matter how much others muttered or complained I can't imagine them holding a party at work when the guy departed.
At my current work we have had a couple of necessary restructures and they were handled openly and with dignity. The bosses were very upfront and caused very little bad blood. Some departees have even come back.

I don't think anyone is arguing the culture was good! But who is to blame for that? The lazy answer is the boss, but that is simplistic BS. If you get bought in to make change and people with high profiles and even larger egos refuse point blank to change or even negotiate? You need to get rid of them. And if the act of getting rid of the toxic elements makes others annoyed.. is just part of the cost.

I think you may be underestimating the elf importance and ego of those employees. Be hard not t be when you are puffed up by the rest of the media.

Obviously you know far more about the inner workings of mediaworks than me so I won't bother with my outsiders view.

Reminds me of Phil Gould being in tears on TV....not cos an earthquake had killed thousands....not cos his child had died.....not even cos his cat had died......but the reason Phil was so cut up was because he was seeing his mate Matty Johns being pilloried ( quite deservedly ) by the media for his part in that group sex scandal a few years back.

The level of loathesome self importance was sickening.

The herald and stuff are both running stories about a possible merger. I guess that makes it official , I guess it also means that unfortunately some people are going to lose theirs jobs if they do merge.

The biggest disappointment from the Herald and Stuff for me is how they have crossed over into the sphere of the lad-bible and other social media based media outlets, who basically just trawl through reddit and take anything written on there as gospel.

It seems since the advent of social media, journalists can write an entire article based on one 160 character social media post. My most-despised of these types of articles are the "tributes pour in for teens killed in Police chase" type articles, where they just get onto the kids facebook pages where people write comments like "I never really knew you, but you seemed pretty cool. RIP" and then post photos of buildings they have tagged in honour of the dead kid in the stolen car.

I still tend to read both websites on a daily basis because it's the easiest way to keep up with what happening back home and there is no real alternative, but it's disappointing when the lead story on both newspapers is an update on what happened on the most recent episode of the bachelor.

Three of the top four stories on the Herald website today were:

- The bachelor: cosy couple, or showbiz sham?

- Bachelor runner up Naz confirms she had sex with Jordan

- Viewers slam 'disgusting' interview with bachelorette Naz.
