Openside flankers

Our flanker stocks have always been deep. Paul Henderson represented Southland and the Highlanders with distinction, at a level just under the top guys. Chris Masoe was great for the Canes and both he and Henderson got test appearances for the ABs

pretty simple answer. The position that every kid wants to play in every team.. so to play there you've got to be good..
extrapolates from there!

McCaw didn't even make the 1998 NZ Schools team. Neither did Newby and they both played in the final.
Rangi Vallance looked like he had McCaw's spot.
That sounds like an obscure pub quiz question

From memory I don't think Marty ever represented any Waikato age group teams until senior level.
Played one season of npc, then Chiefs seemed to be a bit of a toss up between him and Dave Dillon at BOP, Marty got it and pretty sure same season ended up in the AB's? So very quick rise up through the ranks (if my hazy recollection is correct).

All these posts and no mention of Daniel Braid.
Shame on you all.
Or Dwayne Monkley!! Mooloo Ferners hang your heads in shame
Or Martin “twitchy” Leslie although he could play all three positions pretty damn well.

Holah definitely never played for any NZ age-group teams. St John's wasn't exactly a rugby school so maybe he wasn't on the Waikato radar either until senior club rugby.

@nepia Angus MacDonald and Hale T Pole were the other loosies with Harding and Bates.
Yeah, that's why I reckon it was Vallance as Harding is the only "pure" openside out of that lot.
OK. I have no idea who Vallance is, but he's a local to you.
-
jeez, looking through some of these names Aus and the NH should be poaching our cast off 7's

Yep, he's from Hawkes Bay, was a schoolboy star, didn't go very far in senior rugby although did play test and 7s for the Cooks.

@mn5 no need to point out every poorly thought out post
I’m usually on the receiving end so let me have my moment
