If you want an understanding of how tone deaf the Prime Minister is, he secured an exemption permitting him to go to Sydney to spend the weekend with his family and then re-enter the ACT without doing a quarantine. The sooner this fuckwit is removed from office, the better.
And used it as a photo op for something else?
It is perhaps not surprising that nobody in the PMO thought this was a bad idea. Either they're complicit in their staggering arrogance, or they're not capable of getting through to him (or afraid).
Given some of the actions of the PMO the last few years, I'm really not sure whether it wasn't both.

id like to say im surprised but when you see company logos or ad's that must have thousands of people look at them before going public...then the first person outside that looks at it notices it looks like a dick or something...it staggering

OR they deliberately get it out there in all its penisy glory to draw attention to the brand. No such thing as bad publicity

I don't think he's taking direction from mere mortals.

@taniwharugby sounds sensible. Would probably be a good idea to share that with the public though
Why would they want to do that? That creates expectations, and metrics to judge them by.....
It would also give antivaxxers an excuse - "if the target is 70-80%, I can just be the 20-30%" becomes the justification.

324 in vic today, id say most people are just giving up so we may as well just open
was talking to a work mate yesterday, he has always been of the opinion of staying home, following the restrictions, previously.
was talking about how "we're all going out for more than 2 hours" and saying how he was meeting up with a couple of friends yesterday and was going out again this avo...as has been said, restrictions only work while people are happy to follow then and it definitely seems like lots more aren't now

People are over it. You just can't expect people to stay home and chase zero again, all the while knowing it's futile and watching people around the world living their lives again.
Time to join NSW in the real world, we can wave to QLD and WA as we fly over them en-route to Singapore for Xmas and the Greek Islands for July holidays
-
We're feeling pretty stupid, we've followed the rules throughout, feel we may as well have gone out and enjoyed life more during this most recent lockdown
-
@voodoo I said over a year ago the PM was deluded if he thought we'd be happy and accepting of still doing lockdowns. I got the timeline wrong but it appears Anders Tegnell was correct when he elected for a response that was capable of being adopted long term. Despite every social media expert saying he was wrong and claiming victory. The equivalent of stopping after a few laps in a 5km race claiming victory.
I had an engineer tell me on the phone yesterday he was over it given they've been in lockdown for about 200 days. Some irony given today's RUOK day, which gives everyone warm fuzzies as they pay lip service to mental health.

I watched Poland v England this morning and it was a capacity stadium without a mask in sight

@voodoo at some point the public realise it is a fight we cannot win, so why bother limiting our lives battling it?
As you say, especially when you see the rest of the world just getting on with shit!
The NFL's high COVID-19 vaccination rate provides a "unique opportunity" to model a way out of the ongoing pandemic for the entire country, NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said Wednesday in an interview with ESPN.
"We know we are going to have positive cases this season," Sills said a day before the league is scheduled to open its 2021 regular season. "I don't think 'COVID zero' is an attainable goal, and we all need to understand that. What we think we can do is keep our team environments as safe as possible, avoid widespread outbreaks and, with vaccinations in place, convert this into a seasonal illness as opposed to a devastating pandemic."
I never thought I'd take medical advice from the NFL. But that's it in a nutshell

Since we are talking NFL and Covid together, check this out - game me tingles!

@antipodean I agree with your sentiment but I think it's a very long bow to draw claiming Tegnell was right. Just as Sweden couldn't go it alone as they are indelibly part of Europe they are now all benefitting from (most of) Europe having high vax rates.
Compare Sweden with the other Scandinavian countries across the entire pandemic and try to argue Tegnell got it right.

No need to feel stupid mate! You did your bit, even when you may not have believed in it all. Hopefully you get some freedoms again soon!

@voodoo ha yep, I did my bit staying at home for the whole L4 aside from taking TR Jnr to work and i gotta say it was a bit exciting actually getting dressed properly yesterday to come to work, instead of shorts and a tee (as much as that is my preferred attire)
