Black Caps - Bangladesh tour 2021
-
Patel ripping through the bangbros lineup here. 43-6 in the 9th
-
59-7 after 14. Hard to see them coming back from here.

well done sticking it out to the end.
Winning a game there isn't a bad effort at all - and arguably we should have had a crack at the last one too. Wonder if they had a week on the pitches before the first match how we would have gone

Yeah sorry that was all the analysis I could come up with in the early hours....
Yup I reckon you're right. Don't think we should underestimate the loss of Finn Allen for those first two matches though. Although he got out fairly early, just seeing him playing good, assured cricket shots against the Bangladeshi spinners seemed like it did the rest of our batsmen a world of good. It showed us there was a way to bat sensibly without being too conservative.
All 3 spinners bowled some lovely balls, and deserved everything they got. Have to admit they all got away with almost all of their loose deliveries though. Mushfiqur in particular just couldn't take advantage.
Reckon the last 2 should be much closer, and this makes for a far more interesting series than if our A team had gone over there with some proper prep and smashed em.

That game worked out much better than the first two. It's a sign of middle age where once I could watch the games all night, now I involuntarily fell asleep with three wickets left to win...
Thought that was a much better balanced team selection last night too, even with some of the lower order batting not needed.

The good part of the squad selection starting to pay off a bit. Selecting squad with a fair selection of proper test quality batsmen rather than T20 specialists, in fact guys with some poor T20 records (Nicholls, Latham, Blundell. Ravindra also but no doubt he will be an all formats player in future).
Allen is a good attacking player of spin bowling, has a nit of wristy flick to both/either get it over infield and /or work it to gaps.
Getting a score, recovering from dodgy position, to put on a total with a bit of scoreboard pressure.
I'm not that surprised by our food performances of the spinners (maybe McConchie has surprised me a bit). Every time in last 2 to 3 years that we have gone to Asia our spinners have done themselves proud. Just NZ pitches are spinners graveyards (in the test format). It's not a surprise that they can 'surprise'.
This squad also plays the 3 ODIs v Pakistan. Maybe the copious amount of seamers will be more useful then & there (who knows, I haven't seen a game from Pakistan for almost 20 years ), but for this section we are still half a spinner short of the ideal make-up.

Awesome to see us get the win after the heartbreak of game 2. That's gotta be the tactic though, bat first and grind out 100 - 120, then scoreboard pressure plus a dodgy pitch work together to make chasing very difficult.

Batting first in game four. Ravindra has a bit to learn about batting patience it seems, having just thrown away his wicket to a good catch after four dot balls to start the innings. He gets his chance for redemption with the ball later though…
