Ah fuck this fluffybunny. Just like Sevu. I just wish our All Blacks wouldn't assault people. Fucking disgraceful. I'm fine with rehabilitation for people who do these things but people like this shouldn't be public figures and representing our nation.
have to say, when i was at uni in dunners most people that used their diversions did so for things like taking a piss somewhere a little too public or in one case nicking all the pool balls from a pub, maybe pinching a road sign...not so much fighting let alone hitting a woman
Flatmate of mine got diversion, but the summary of facts was a great read. He was arrested in town after an Otago v Canterbury rugby game for offensive behaviour or similar for pulling a brown eye in the street. The SoF went something like: "Mr (Smudge's flatmate) then proceeded to drop his trousers and bend over, part his cheeks and say "kiss this, Canterbury".
An anus horribilis?

Ted also picked a Highlanders loose forward who had been before the courts on similar charges that were public.
You mean the one who whose case didn't even go to trial because the evidence didn't stack up?
Didn't his partner refuse to testify look or recanted their story? Not sure if that is looked at the same way these days.
If Frizzell completes diversion he won't go to trial either right? The alleged facts are clearly worse in this case.
I'm not trying to say these two alleged incidents are the same. It was a response to the "better people make better ABs" comment under Ted when you had players getting picked with similar charges, several of whom benefitted name suppression.

The Henry reign started off bumpy and they evolved to that better standard. Tana was also involved in sorting out the player leadership.
There is definitely a difference from Hanson and Fozzie’s era to Ted’s and not all for the better.

But what is the difference?
I think we might be talking about different things here?
The culture within the AB camp was clearly better under Ted after the 2004 3N and the first half of Hansen's tenure.
The "better people" moniker is all I'm pointing out. Even during that 2008-2011 cycle you had reasonably senior ABs getting DUIs and drunk in public arrests with regularity - they just did it all while on Super Rugby duty and those with domestic violence issues had name suppression. It does seem like there is less of that nowadays?

One can never believe what one reads on the internet but this does have a ring of truth to it..

Overzealous guests at the same motel called the police, the partner never made an accusation at all.

that's why he got diversion

The All Blacks squad features six loose forwards but Highlanders blindside Shannon Frizell has been left in Dunedin after being charged with two counts of male assaults female and another of common assault earlier this year. He has been offered diversion by the police and is not likely to be convicted over the matter, but this will be determined at a hearing on September 21.
Foster confirmed those charges prevented Frizell from gaining a visa to enter Australia.
"He's got aspects to work through regarding his court case. We're really confident he will but in the meantime he's got some things to do with that before he can come over."

i find that last comment from Foster incredibly distasteful
-
@mariner4life he should just say "that is with the courts, so won't comment"
I know he cant really come out and say he is a stupid fluffybunny and will never pull on a jersey while I'm coach, but certainly shouldnt be commenting on selecting him with a case pending.

it fucking makes it sound like Shannon has to pay a parking ticket!

Yeah the dismissive off hand nature of how he’s describing it is pretty fucked but then again Foster doesn’t have a history of engaging his brain before speaking ( or coaching Rugby )
-
@taniwharugby @mariner4life I guess he’s either part of the squad or he’s not. And if he’s not then they need to state why he isn’t.
It doesn’t mean he will be selected to play a test, there’s other factors involved in that decision. All other players that can be are there regardless of whether they will play a test or not. If we use a job or contract analogy, shouldn’t he be doing his job that he is getting paid for right now? The money is still flowing to him as part of his contract. So either rip up the contract so he’s not getting paid, but if not he’s got a job to do.
Yes he’s got court stuff to work through, we aren’t privvy to what that actually is or the extent of it.
-
@act-crusader did you get a root this morning? That's real calm and zen of you
i understand the situation, i don't like the tone of the wording.
-
@act-crusader well we know our media are morons, so the fact they needed to ask why he wasnt there says it all.

The peanuts/monkeys adage comes to mind when I think of NZ media.

I think you're being uncharitable here. To me that looks like Foster is speaking to Shannon's ability to secure the visa necessary to enter Australia.

possibly. not like me to get a slightly wrong angle at something and then not only run with it, but blow up while doing it though...
