Lockdown/Covid Check In

Resurgence subsidy tomorrow
Opens tomorrow. Can't do that until we have been lvl 4 for a week as I read it.
"When applying for the RSP, the start date of the 7-day period where your business or organisation has experienced a drop in revenue is the date the increase in the alert level started."
A few other pedantic technicalities that may not apply to you.

We’ll, after 4 pretty shit months, things are a bit up here. Although it was totally depressing to read @MajorRage ’s post that MIQ in NZ is shutdown for the foreseeable, I still had a pretty fantastic day.
Thanks to @MajorRage and @MN5 and @Paekakboyz for the messages from my last post ( @taniwharugby most likely also posted something nice) , after which I tried to have a think about whether I wanted to pull the chain - or not - and right now the answer is no.
So, I’ve been making more of an effort with my wife and things are better, if not exactly good.
We’d usually be in Europe right now visiting friends, but instead, we’re in Okinawa for a week, and, it’s heaven.
Travel was easy, rental car service was excellent (upgraded too), and we arrived to a nice apartment hotel 5 minutes from the beach, with a garlic shrimp joint just down the hill, and an apartment with a sea view and fine weather.
I spent an hour in the pool with my boy and tomorrow will be beach, pool, beer, snooze, repeat then add shrimp and wine on top in the evening.
Rinse-repeat for a week.
So, fuck COVID in a big way, but for the first time in quite a while, things feel a bit better.
I was honestly happy that I’m living here today, for the first time in quite some time - there were about 4000 cases around our joint today but we are still able to travel and have an actual summer holiday and the mental-health value of that can’t be overstated.

@gt12 I’ve read it’s wonderful, but far enough off pitch it requires its own separate visit (as opposed to mainland)?
It’s about 3 hours from Tokyo (Haneda) so many of my European friends have added a few days to their trips, but most of them come for 3 weeks to a month, so 4 days of that is t such a big deal. To do it and see the other islands (Miyakojima, Ishigaki), I’d say that a 10-12 day Okinawa only trip would be needed, but that’s a long time to eat SPAM and drink Orion (its like a mini Hawaii here). 3-4 days would give enough of the flavor of the place.
Having said that, we came to this spot because we are thinking of buying land around here and retiring here rather than in NZ. So, I could be in for a fucking lot of SPAM burgers.
If you do visit btw, Ishigaki is fucking awesome, and I have friends in Amami (between here and Nagasaki) right now and they say its better than Okinawa.

Having done the Ryuku Islands from Hateruma up I can vouch for that. Amami is awesome, relaxing and beautiful without the gross tourism of Okinawa.

@gt12 brilliant mate, great to hear.
I'm also contemplating a mini-break to get out of the monotony. Given current restrictions, probably more like a day trip. Nothing more than 5kms or so from home.
Tossing up between Bunnings (suck it @NTA 😎) or Woolies. Any suggestions from recent trips (good specials, favourite isles to peruse etc) welcome.

I did the paint aisle on Sunday. There was a young lady whose active wear pants were spray painted on. She was very athletic.

Went for a ride on Sunday and in the warm Sydney weather it was delightfully common.
I'm sure they were all wearing masks, but really didn't notice.

Have done some catching up on this thread and decided to dump some random thoughts/emotions as well.
I've had an insanely stressful couple of weeks. Started off at work, where shit hit the fan in a big, big way (work in IT), and I ended up having to work more than 100 hours in a week cleaning up the mess. Purely from a work perspective it was the worst week of my career, by some stretch. I was broken by the end of it and desperately needed time off.
That happened at the same time as we were meant to be packing up ready for the moving truck to come on the Friday as we are moving house. Meaning we were nowhere near packed and ready to go - my wife did what she could but with 3 boys (8 months, 2 and 8.) and me being completely consumed by work there was no way it was going to happen. Tried to reschedule the truck but they were booked up solid so had to just go with it.
Then we had way, way more fucking stuff than I realised. We completely filled up the truck, and still had plenty left to move including some large items. I decided not to do two trips as that would cost a fortune, thinking I'd just hire a trailer and get it done with a mate the following week. The biggest blessing of moving house was that I booked a weeks leave to do it, and given how shit work had been I desperately needed that week even though I felt bad leaving my colleagues to deal with the ongoing mess without me.
Then Monday and Tuesday the weather was sketchy, so decided to do the trailer either Weds or Thurs. Then fucking lockdown, and nobody allowed to hire trailers, or obviously get my mate to help. So I've moved what I can, but there's still plenty left at the old place and we can't do anything about it. Luckily we have the important stuff like beds, fridge etc, but my whole gym is stuck at the old place and I'm missing not being able to hit it in the mornings.
On the plus side, the new place is about 3 times bigger than our old. Gone from 3 bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom, to 4 bedrooms, an office, open plan kitchen and dining onto a balcony, another separate formal dining room, lounge, two bathrooms/showers, ginormous backyard which includes a fully fenced bush the boys can play in, and a 2 minute walk from the beach. So a massive upgrade and we are loving it already even though we're missing a good chunk of our stuff.
As I said I've done some catching up on this thread and appreciate people sharing their ups and downs, it's actually really therapeutic to read, given how fucked the world is at the moment with Covid. My thoughts and prayers go out to those trying to work with kids at home. I've got the 8 year old in the office with me and trying to get him to actually listen during his zoom calls, and then even harder getting him to actually complete the activities afterwards is really pushing shit up hill with a stick. I don't want to be too hard on him though, as it's so tough for kids that suddenly cannot see their friends - 2 weeks is like a lifetime to an 8 year old so I'm just trying to make sure I check in on his well being and give him as much love and support as I can.
My middle child turns 3 tomorrow, he had his birthday in lockdown last year as well. I've managed to get some toys from Countdown, thankfully at that age he'd be stoked with a pack of balloons but we're still a bit upset that he has to have another birthday in lockdown rather than with family and friends etc.
So all in all a crappy two weeks, compounded by the lockdown, but feeling a bit better about things now. On the relationship front the wife and I have never been closer, we've very much developed a mentality that we are a team and are in this shit together, and she's been an amazing support especially with the long hours I've been working. One thing we both acknowledge though is it's been a long time since we had genuine 'us' time without the kids etc, so once we're out the other side of Covid we will have to try and plan something where we can just get away - maybe a second honeymoon or something. But fuck knows when that will be.

@no-quarter Lucky you don't work there - what a shitshow

@antipodean They should have spent some real money on it. Cheapskates.
Having said that, their Buck app is pretty cool. Slightly buggy sign-up but does what it is supposed to.
