@victor-meldrew I really can't think why some people might be questioning Biden's authority and executive skills.
Perhaps this all comes as a shock to them, not having paid attention during the previous 40 years of his "public service".

Up to 40,000.US citizens still in Afghanistan
This can't be true. Can it?
Answer is the US have no idea how many Americans are there. I think that's actually worse.

There are estimated to be about 10,000 Americans currently still in Afghanistan, although the Pentagon spokesman estimated 5000-10000.
Americans who requested to be evacuated from Afghanistan received a note from the State Department informing them that the U.S. can’t “guarantee” their security on the way to the Kabul airport, CBS News reported on Tuesday.
The State Department has a list of roughly 5,000 Americans who have requested to leave Afghanistan and roughly half of them received the note, according to CBS.
“Thank you for registering your request to be evacuated from Afghanistan….Please make your way to Hamid Karzai International Airport at this time,” the note reads. “PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE UNITED STATES CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR SECURITY AS YOU MAKE THIS TRIP.”
I would be very surprised if the Taliban don't decide to take at least some hostages.

It's what happens when you spend four years focussing on clever ways to show how much you hate for the other guy, rather than doing the boring stuff like actually think policies thru.

Afghanistan has been a major travel book request for years, including when Americans were bombing it.

Wasn't he spending some of those years show howing much he hates/hated/was hated by the other Democratic candidates?
I don't know why the US take so long to vote in a President. They should spin a bottle, it'd be cheaper and more fun.
