Jab #1 done.
I booked on Friday morning and had the jab that afternoon. I probably could have been done it within the hour based on the slots available to me. No excuse if you want it.
-
Got my text from my Dr this morning about making an appointment for my 1st jab...guessing was automated as MyHealth App shows the jab I had yesterday.
Are DHBs and other groups going out to Maraes, and Church groups, particularly in remote rural areas, South Auckland etc to get people vaccinated?
I know one of the local Maori Health boards here has been doing alot of younger people for weeks now, but I dont know it they are going out to remote maraes and setting up for a few days to get locals to come out.

JKLA says all adults by Christmas will have been invited to have both jabs. What is the realistic expectation for ACTUAL jabs?
I got offered mine before the “ramp up” and it was a six week delay.
I could have sought out overflow clinics, but that’s reasonable for my circumstances (working from home).
Regardless, this is where they need to spend all their focus so we don’t need long term MIQ prisons.

Our clinic is actively trying to find people to vaccinate, regardless of level. I don't like seeing them running below capacity, it is a matter of getting the word out to those who want it

@kirwan Cheers. Haven't seen my 91 year old dad for nearly two years!
Man, that’s tough. Certainly more pressure on the government to sort this shit out. Less blindly listening now, hope you can get back soon.

With the daily vax numbers update yesterday. By my count we are one third of the way through the vaccination rollout.
About 3.8 million 16 and overs in NZ. So 7.6 million jabs needed. About 2.5 million jabs have been done as of yesterday.
Recent weeks since ramp up started, the rate has been about 250 to 260k a week.
By my maths that means we are currently doing about 6.5% of the required jabs (to vaccinated all 'adults') per week.
At that rate, theoretically, it would/could all be done by end of October. It won't, as there will be a tail off.
But anyway, "end of year" isn't a pipe dream.

@gt12 the key is getting the vaccine roll out right, my concern there is there are still some with genuine concerns about the vaccine, despite the billions of doses being administered and then there are the anti vaxxers spreading BS.
So my worry is there will be too bigger group of unvaccinated people to get things where we need them to open up as they have indicated.
Invite them all to an anti-vaxxer rally in a big stadium then lock the doors and let the guy who plays music at the rugby bombard them with endless rounds of 'Hey Baby'.
Only way out is through the door with the jabs.Similar to what was actually done with the smallpox vaccine. That groups wouldn't take

Man, we are gonna do well to avoid this getting out at some point...

If we can hold it out for another two and half months (based on the optimistic end of @Rapido's vax rate calculations) that would be ideal at this stage of proceedings. Whether it's possible is another story...

I wonder why you can't put up a bond and then self-isolate at home?
Because that would be much better than paying to be locked up, then getting it from some other fluffybunny.
Seriously, their system sucks.

I like that idea. Random checks and you are found not to be home, Bye bye bond.

Ankle bracelet/phone tracking... cheaper than hotel rooms.
Hell, you could do 5 days in MIQ and then after 5 consecutive negative saliva and a couple of swabs go home. Triple MIQ capability in one fell swoop.

Taiwan do something like that. They will call you at random times and track you by phone. If you aren't at home they will pick you up and detain you

I would absolutely do that if I had the choice.
But I can see why they don't offer it. No amount of bond lets the country recover from some infectious tit going rogue...

You would have to do something like that as it would be easy to just leave your phone at home and do what you want. It still comes back to personal responsibility and following the rules.
