I'd be outraged if I knew who Brian Cant was and more so if it was an appalling pun. -

Mn5, you're my boy, but you're a bit of a tool on these music threads. You make massive claims based on your own taste, use Willis terms like "axeman", and then fall back on the "internet tough guy" call when anyone calls you on it.

Music is taste, there is no right answer.

Knopfler is fucking amazing by the way

I don't care that he disagrees, there's no basis to his disagreement that's all and I've always said it does irk me when people make bullshit threats that's all. As for massive claims based on own taste I'm not alone there, that's what every single post on every single movie/music thread is.....

It's a bit rich you having a go at me on this after your little bitch fight with Rancid on of all things, Star Wars ????

You reckon Knopfler is amazing.....cool. How exactly ? I don't, him and Clapton don't have that wow factor to me, they are rated as Guitar heroes but when I was learning the guitar I found their stuff quite easy to play. Shit from other guitarists of their era was technically far more difficult and as a result sounded better to me. Again, all taste but in my opinion The Breeze shouldn't play stuff by guitar "hero's".....Clapton and Dire Straits are all over it.

I was never a huge Queen fan but Brian May is an awesome guitarist.
-

Knopfler played sessions for Steely Dan and Bob Dylan. That's cred.

Can I recommend Bryan Ferry's "Windswept" off Boys and Girls? Knopfler and Gilmour on the same track. With Tony Levin on bass.

Oh, and David Sanborn on sax.
-

You certainly have a high opinion of yourself.

You reckon Knopfler is amazing.....cool. How exactly ? I don't, him and Clapton don't have that wow factor to me, they are rated as Guitar heroes but when I was learning the guitar I found their stuff quite easy to play.

Even Anne Frank wouldn't have mistaken your playing for theirs. There's a smaller distance between Earth and Jupiter than a beginner who manages to hit the same notes as he reads the tab in front of him. There are some unbelievably technically brilliant guitarists in conservatoriums, but they aren't creating the music Knopfler and Clapton did. They aren't creating or redefining genres for other guitarists, nor does most of the guitar playing world recognise them for their contributions. Interstingly both Knopfler and Clapton are economical players, doing only what's necessary for the songs they play on to transcend. Perhaps they just aren't flashy enough for you to appreciate. Pity Chet Atkins died before you took up the guitar, he'd love to have played with someone who found their shit easy to play.

Antipodean have you ever read Mick Walls Metallica biography exit light? There's a part in it where the producer of master of puppets finally snaps and asks Urlich if he has to start every song with a downbeat and he asks " what's s downbeat ?" This was when he was being touted as one of the worlds premier drummers, around the same time he was telling people Phil Rudd and Charlie Watts were the worst drummers ever. About 10 years later he was telling people the exact opposite . I think you're having the same conversion with MN5 .
