Is it that hard to understand? He's making two points.
-
Nobody expects us to win, so we have nothing to lose.
-
The new players have never played the ABs before, and they hold a certain mystique in the minds of new opponents (an 'aura', if you will). But now he's played them, he realises they are flesh and blood like the rest of us, and if you tackle them they fall down! Funny that. Now they aren't so scary anymore.
-
-
Well there either is an Aura or there isn't and it isn't just new opponents that face it. many players in the Wallaby squad have an extremely low success rate against us.
He may feel less nervous about facing the AB as it isn't his first match, and I strongly suggest that they knew that if they tackled us we would fall down.

@snowy He's saying for him there was an aura, but now he's played them that's worn off.
I'd suggest our low success rate has less to do with aura and more to do with New Zealand's players being better at rugby than Australia's.
Ok, what I don't understand though is these blokes play NZers all the time - why did the Aura wear off only after he played the ABs (or have I misunderstood the comments?)

I think there's a difference between playing NZers and playing the All Blacks. On a psychological level at least.

Almost like an aura?

Yes, an aura. Exactly that. He said it and so did I. His point was the aura wears off, for him, after playing them and realising they are only human.

That's the amusing thing. The aura that goes away once you have played them once but also seems to stick around if you keep losing to them. Like most players over the last 100+ years. He might be in a team to beat us this week, so who knows, but he knew that they were human, just quite tough to beat as a team. Aura.
Sports psychology ay.

He also said "a little bit" so we still got it over him.

Interesting quote from Kellaway given the Wallabies are 1-0 down in a 3 match series they have to win outright.
"There’s no real pressure on our end."
According to @NTA there has to be pressure on their end for this to happen "You'll smack six shades of shit out of us next week"

Makes some sense to me, the Wallabies have nothing to lose as they have no aura to lose..

An aura only exists if someone mentions it.
Very philosophical. Could an unspoken Aura exist at all?
Like a tree falling in the woods and no one to hear it...
I always thought that was the root of the humour in the whole 'aura' thing (or are we taking it seriously now?)
The only time 'aura' gets mentioned is when someone is telling us it has gone.

I don't think that we take it seriously, but it seems that other teams / players might.
Second bit - Very philosophical again - can something that apparently doesn't exist then be gone, and how many times can you lose something that you already lost the year before (for 20+ years)?

Now you are talking Mystique. Laura's porn double.

Oh noes, Phil Gifford is at it too
Phil Gifford: Is it possible the All Blacks aura has gone??
I've no idea what it says, pay walled and obviously stupid

Something something Mo'unga is the greatest 10 to play the game, something something Cullen Grace is the best new young player since DC, something something the Crusaders injury replacement prop who played 2 minutes of a warm up game should be in the ABs.
From my reading of his articles back in the day I think the above is a good approximation.
