@kirwan im genuinely curious now, and this probably isnt the place, what are the jarringly "left" messages and movies Marvel are making
I can honestly say, obviously its made by and stars lots of noted democrats, i didn't think there was too much, cant remember them fighting for free health care, some of the biggest characters are a literal arms manufacturer and hawkeye is a member of the NRA
The most policalial ones being the second and third captain amercia's ,as i described above, i thought gave both side of a couple of arguments, literally splitting the heros into two camps
the second guardians movie literally goes into how much starlord missed having a dad growing and even went on to show that yondo played the role and helped make him a good guy
They are currently in the process of replacing male characters with females (Captain Marvel is supposed to be the new leader of the Avengers, Hawkeye series is about the new female version, Loki had the same). Also that clunky "girl power" scene in the last Avengers that was much mocked.
listing the one female loki in a series with tens of males ones and they acknowledge that a female one is really unusual but also have a crocodile one you dont seem to have a problem with...is a little funny
all of those are from the comics, they havent swapped genders for them, they are new female characters, its not a different version of hawkeye...its his daughter...and he's in the series too
yes, there was one very blatant scene in endgame...that was probably deliberately trying to trigger blokes that are arguing that +20 hugely male dominated films aren't enough

Except that the female Loki is not only a lead character, but shown in the story to be more powerful than TH Loki (who's been steadily depowered for some weird reason since Avengers).
You are missing the point, the comics have already gone through this woke bullshit. One of the reasons sales are tanking too.
-
@kirwan you need to watch again, all the loki's have different powers, she can enchant but the OG loki can shape shift, old loki can make illusions etc, but all can learn what they other can do eventually
the whole pot of the show is about different types of Loki...not changing the one we know...but the female one is a step too far?
to be clear thought, having a female lead (even thought the series is quite literally named after loki and she has chosen the name sylvie) is now considered woke BS? they should stay in the kitchen where they belong i guess?
fmales make up approx half the population, is it really that offensive to see them on screen doing kick arse shit?...have you watched the first What if?
-
@tim in fairness, my original post still belongs in the TV thread
and you know this thread will just die because people wont go in to a thread called "children's comic books" to talk about marvel movies
-
lol @Tim you are such a stirring bitch!!
-
so, what about the latest Marvel one, "What If?....."
not a fan of how they had a female character taking a mans job and doing anything other than cooking or cleaning...grrrr....periods are gross and stuff

@mariner4life pretty fair commentary
Looking at the Marvel series so far, they have all had pretty clear messages etc and all have been very different, its pretty cool
So there has there been a pro-male , pro-tradition , right wing Marvel series so far?
All the comics pre 80s
I am talking about Marvel TV series being made now.
Just wondering if they are living up to diverse political viewpoints, or only the left. There were some positive father points in Wandavision, so not the normal left view of parenting there.
FFS that is a weird comment.
Why? Left politics is very biased towards single mother's being just as good for children, despite research that says the opposite.
Good of you to group the entirety of the left in this - I thought it was the left that did that kind grouping ....
Secondly, it's still B/S, even if it was true it doesn't make your statement true, its not zero sum, the "whichever large group you're talking about" can be positive about male parenting and be positive about single mother parenting as well.
Never said it was zero sum, or any other strawman you feel like posting up.
My comment is of course a generalisation, I don't have time to ask everybody on the left their opinion on single parenting. But it's clear it's seen as a positive, as a generalisation, on the left. Lots of data to show better results for children having both parents.
What strawman? You said positive father points and not the normal left view of parenting. It's just B/S.
Here's the first link I found, from the good old NY Times. Even derides the "studies" that shows she's wrong.
There are many more, and plenty of policy from that side of the isle that backs up my opinion too. Famous examples of Helen Clarke talking about it in the 70s (wanting to replace fathers with dependence on the State).
The strawman is that is some on the left don't subscribe to my generalisation then it's completely wrong. It's a commonly held belief on the left that single parenting is as good as having both parents.
Even if the bold were true, and I don't agree that it is in the slightest, that still doesn't mean the normal left view of parenting is not in favour of "positive father points".

@kirwin i think one single parent CAN be better than one/two shitty ones, i and everyone i can ever remember talking too are in favour of positive parents of either or both genders....its the "positive" aspect that is the most important part, not the gender

I thought it would all come together at various points?

I think these are like the comics, what if "insert blank". Linked in the sense they are part of the multiverse, but can be one and done oddities. Get some great stories with these.
One of my favourites is Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe, as he makes his way through murdering EVERYBODY. Final panel is him crawling out of the comic to kill the writers.
Kirwan household consensus is we'd watch the hell out of a Captain Carter movie.
-
so, anyone else watching?
so far a lot of fun, so far don't seem to be connected, the most recent has a cool twist
-
looks fun, i think this is a series isn't it? yet another different tone, has a die hard/90's action comedy vibe
