Marvel movies and tv shows
-
anyone interested in the new Marvel one? "What if?...."
watched the first one last night pretty good, will try the rest
-
so, i finally watched this show that i heard a couple of people talking about. It's from this little known indie production company you've probably never heard of, Marvel or something, and it's called The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
And you know what? It wasn't that bad. Great length. Decent level for a TV show as opposed to a movie.
But by christ is it heeeaaavy on the social messaging. From the very first fucking episode where Sam says " the women and men" when fucking no one says it that way, right through to the lengthy monologues of the last two episodes, this shit had a lot to say, and went to great pains to show just how willing it was to say it.
it didn't detract from my enjoyment, but it was definitely noticeable.

Just wondering if they are living up to diverse political viewpoints, or only the left. -
@frank was tempted to not reply, seems you've been triggered by something
I said they are all very different, not that they have covered every aspect of live
Wandavision = history of sitcoms and study in personal loss and grief
TFatWS = spy thriller, social commentary and also went deeper into the ramifications of the snap
Loki = full sci fi mind fuck and investigation of what makes someone who they are
What if?... = so far literally what it says in the title -

in fairness, there are still significantly more male superheroes than female, pro male if you want to look at it like that
movies like civil war are quite literally about some aspects to the right v left, regulation v personal freedom
The Winter Soldier is a spy thriller action but also investigates the idea of america (in the form of shield) being the world police, it could easily be viewed as conservative or "american right" winning, standing up against global authority controlling people etc
basically if you want to make these into political things, there are a lot of different viewpoints in them...maybe you should watch rather than just assuming you know what they are about...but they are also just blockbuster films for the masses, so you could also just look at the like that

Just wondering if they are living up to diverse political viewpoints, or only the left. There were some positive father points in Wandavision, so not the normal left view of parenting there.

FFS that is a weird comment. And complete B/S.

Why? Left politics is very biased towards single mother's being just as good for children, despite research that says the opposite.
-
@kiwiwomble said in TV Serieseseses:
@kirwan ...but has Marvel been championing these viewpoints, not as far as i can remember
Very much a left bias, as noted above, that's why I pointed out an area where they diverge from that.

Good of you to group the entirety of the left in this - I thought it was the left that did that kind grouping ....
Secondly, it's still B/S, even if it was true it doesn't make your statement true, its not zero sum, the "whichever large group you're talking about" can be positive about male parenting and be positive about single mother parenting as well.
-
@kirwan im genuinely curious now, and this probably isnt the place, what are the jarringly "left" messages and movies Marvel are making
I can honestly say, obviously its made by and stars lots of noted democrats, i didn't think there was too much, cant remember them fighting for free health care, some of the biggest characters are a literal arms manufacturer and hawkeye is a member of the NRA
The most policalial ones being the second and third captain amercia's ,as i described above, i thought gave both side of a couple of arguments, literally splitting the heros into two camps
the second guardians movie literally goes into how much starlord missed having a dad growing and even went on to show that yondo played the role and helped make him a good guy
