@dogmeat Yep. I assume the the ball is weighed in a standard number of hobbits?

The pitch length must also be in measured in short faggots. I believe that would actually be very close to what we use now (22).

Wonder why they changed the name?

@dogmeat This is an excellent long read from last June on the origins of The Hundred.

    https://wisden.com/stories/county-cricket/the-hundred/the-birth-of-the-hundred-bitterness-bullying-accusations-betrayal-almanack

Whilst the launch of The Hundred has been a relatively success within England. A flaw in the ECB's thinking is that the new format is never going to usurp T20 as the established brand of shortened Cricket internationally.

@sparky so it's 84% of a T20 with some wanky variation on over lengths?

    Whats the fucking point?

84% of the most objectionable form of the great game?

Outstanding GOM post which I agree with word for word

FYI - there is ball by ball commentary of the Engand v India test series on SENZ, for the insomniacs and night shift workers.

Bangladesh has just beaten Australia 4-1 in a T20 series. In the last game Bangladesh scored 122-8 then bowled Oz out for 62 in 13.4 overs!

@daffy-jaffy they've been dominant all series. But man, it's been hard batting - 6 an over is good going over there. Ball turning heaps I presume - I saw a bit of one last weekend.

We are touring there next month with an understrength team so best not celebrate Aussie's demise too soon.

Woah. Great start to the new WTC cycle for almost everyone. (except the 2 who played)

England and India docked two WTC points apiece for slow over rates during the first Test in Nottingham.

The teams now take two points each out of the Test match, instead of the four they would normally get for a draw under the new points system for the 2021-23 WTC cycle.

    @rapido that's brilliant.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why the over rate is the sole responsibility of the fielding team? The batsmen can soak up a lot of time delaying the bowlers at times - why is that not penalised?

@delicatessen from memory, the umpires make a report to the match referee that takes into account the batsmen and any other reasons why the bowling team might not have been able to keep up with the over rate and the referee then makes a final decision on what action to take.

My issue with the Hundred is that they invented a completely new format of cricket out of thin air for the sole reason of shortening a T20 to fit within a broadcasting window. T20 was originally designed to be over in two and a half hours but it just got slower and slower and slower.

By checking back on scorecards, for the original T20 international between NZ and Aus, the NZ innings was over in under 70 minutes. With a 10 minute break, the game slotted into 2.5 hours. For a recent T20 international, an innings was over 100 minutes. That means a game would struggle to complete in under 3.5 hours. How did teams get away with it?

An unbeaten 180 for Joe Root to leave England with a small, first innings lead at the of Day 3 of the Lord's Test against India. An immense effort by the England skipper.
