All over we are seeing PBs (as we should with peaking for the right time) but also huge ORs and WRs.
The cynic in me would put some of this down to COVID allowing some avoidance of testing during training but probably it has been the time off between peaks that has allowed extra strength and speed to be developed.I wonder the effect of no crowds too. Would hurt certain athletes that feed off the vibe, but maybe it helps others? Allows them to focus better?

Lydia playing well so far over the opening 9 holes of 2nd round and -5 for the day (-6 overall). Even started the day with a bogey so great going
And another birdie on 10......shes playing some amazing golf today
Up to 6th now - and more holes left than any of the other leaders (which isn't always a good thing, but...).
This course is really open to good scoring. Brilliant conditions too
Bad weather coming so they may be culling the last round and making it a 54holer. Decision to come after completion of this round

Gatey - just touched wheels with rider in front.
just terrible timing as front rider had finished as per strategy and was pulling out - by time he saw too late to get back on.
Gates needed to do a 'soccer injury' and roll back on the track to stop the race. Pretty unusual for a race to continue when a crash occurs.

I can understand calls to strip them of their medals but when I read stuff like this I think it might be best to at least let them have something for their suffering. All those medals came at a shocking cost.

Nelly Korda finished with a double-bogey to give a slight glimmer of hope to the rest. Still tied the Olympic record for the lowest round.
Bits of sporting achievers that family - Mrs Korda, who peaked as a quarterfinalist at the French Open (in tennis), is probably the low man on the totem pole.

We've still got more to come as well - our men's 1500m runners have a chance, so do our female high jumpers and javelin throwers. And the young bloke currently sitting second in the decathlon. Would love one of them to sneak a medal.
It’s a different vibe. The swimming team qualifying is incredibly hard (have to match or beat slowest time in final from previous world championships) and they’re expected to medal. Anything less is a failure or choke. The runners don’t have the same expectations and you can see that in how much more relaxed they are. They’re just happy to be there and it shows.

If we still competed as Australasia, we'd be up to 24 golds and 55 medals - comfortably in third on the medal table and worrying the Americans.
Pretty amazing for a combined population of 30 million!
A few combined teams might have picked up some additional or upgraded medals, as well.
