German dude wins 10km swim.
I would only finish that race if there was a current in the right direction.

@machpants shots fired! poor leadership, corruption, and shitty systems by the Int weightlifting association has already cost them spots at this Olympics with fewer weight classes. I think it's under genuine threat of being cut in the future if they can't sort their shit out.
This article highlights the issues pretty well: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/aug/04/lasha-talakhadze-dominates-but-could-this-be-weighliftings-last-heave
It would be such a shame to see it removed, it's genuinely one of my favourite sports to watch. It's such a pure test of strength, no bells or whistles or tricks or gimmicks. Just who can lift heaviest.
Lasha Talakadze is such a beast, and it was amazing to watch him do his thing last night. Is he doping? Probably. But it's still great to watch and I'd be so sad to see it go.

@tim skills and rugby experience aside think about the team you could assemble across all the athletes at the Olympics!!
Weightlifting + field events (throwing etc) pretty much secures your front row and maybe a #8 or blindside
Rowers and maybe basketball would be first stop for second row and maybe backrow options
Then why pick actual sevens players for your backs when you can select a bunch of guys who can run sub 10sec!
Throw in a 1st 5 with a decent boot on him (football?) then it's all on.I think the actual struggle would be finding a scrum that could hold up against the pack you could select!

Shot put final starts at 2:05 pm. Our boys might be fighting for a silver medal although Crouser has flopped on the big stage before.
Crouser Olympic record on first throw, everyone else playing for silver

@machpants I was thinking that a couple of bans and Liti gets bronze. The winner has been caught before.
And one of the others, silver or bronze, can't remember

@barbarian pretty sure he got done quite early in his career. Which makes sense given the pressure they'd be under since age grade to be the best they can be
But he's got amazing technique, so smooth and hardly any loss of power. Add in the fact he's 170kg+ and yeah, the man is going to shift some tin!! -
