Too many events at the Olympics?

"Too many events at the Olympics", "Too many sports that require judging", "Too much swimming".
- Are you the host city bill payer?
- Are you unable to reach the remote to change to one of the other 11 Olympic channels?
- Are you the pre-Games scheduler losing sleep trying to fit everything in to 16 days?
Otherwise I don't see a problem with too much sport
Yes, dammit.

To add to this:
Olympic costs have been shared equally between the central government, Tokyo metropolitan government, and Olympic Organizing Committee
So, if you live in Rishiri (essentially, Russia) or Ishigaki (essentially, Taiwan), your tax dollars are funding this shit show!

I've had a 180
why am i arguing against more sports on TV? Fuck it, add another week and put all sorts of shit in. I watched freestyle BMX yesterday and it was fucking cool.
I guess my attitude was clouded by living in Australia, and the nationalistic dick-waving (strange term considering it was the chicks carrying the men) around medal counts based purely on the pool. All this "greatest olympian" bullshit based on medal tallies. medal tallies built because of the number of events they get to enter. And that's, once again, a failing of the media, not of the Olympics.
Swimming pads the stats for the Americans, the Aussies, and the Chinese. I get over that, i get over it all.
So yeah, Bigger! Swollen! More! that's my new motto
One thing I’m assuming the Aus press hasn’t mentioned is that at least 5 of those swimming golds would probably not have happened if Covid had not hit.
yeah, 12 months is a looooong time alright.
Still so impressive from those Aussie women. Great athletes.
Mens 1500 free was pretty cool. 3 guys in it right to the end. Watching them swim that fast for that long blows my mind.
That was an incredible finish. I’d be lucky to clock a 30sec 50m at all let alone do it for 40 odd laps.
The chicks were incredible. Feel sorry for Kyle Chalmers. Poor prick had to try and produce miracles every time. The medley team were very disappointing. Elijah Winnington also went badly to poo. He would have been a dead cert for gold on his qualification times but was a shadow of himself.
that big American was a freak. Fuck racing that guy
i just checked my Garmin. My fastest 1,500m from when i was swimming was 37 minutes!!!!! 2 and a half times slower!!
Actually, that is what i want in my Olympic coverage, augmented reality. Your Garmin stats are fed in to a program that then shows your performance overlayed on the event coverage. So it's 100m time? you go run a hundred, and then you can see yourself "competing" against the athletes.
Imagine how fucking incredible you would find watching the 10,000m if you saw how far you got spat out the back right from the start, and then how many times you got lapped?
In fact, i am off to find a development partner.
That’s GOLD
Good luck, and don’t forget the little people.

@williethewaiter manu's are a very technical!
They have a bombing comp in Taupo over summer dont they, off a big tower!
But yeah so many of them have the pre-jump ritual and technique down pat!

@mariner4life that is absolutely genius

Arguably there may be too few weight classes in something like Men’s Boxing
Super Heavyweight starts at 91kg (200lbs) which isn’t that heavy, let alone super

Good call, that was obviously a pretty sizeable bloke back in the year 1900 but times change. To use a Rugby analogy off the top of my head only Damien McKenzie, Richie Mo’unga and Sevu Reece would be below that, Perenara and B Barrett about the same and the rest considerably bigger ( but still not big enough in some positions )
But then again Rugby numbers are fudged quite a bit, Boxing’s never are.

I'd suggest ROUVY. https://rouvy.com They've partnered with La Vuelta to provide digitally recreated stages of the Spanish tour you can compete on in real time.

Reece is 98 kg, he must have used Ardie's kitchen scales..

I find the swimming debate quite funny. The whole problem is that people treat the Olympics like a dick measuring contest. It seems to be all about how many medals you win. Actually, the Olympics should never be about that.
Swimming is a genuinely tough sport to win medals in. It is easy to win multiple medals if you are extremely good but who cares? If we were talking about difficulty of medals, it is still way tougher than rowing or sailing. One olympic medal in one sport has never been the same as a medal in another sport. There are some sports where it is more of an achievement to come 18th than to win gold in rowing.
So we shouldn't worry that Phelps has more golds than other people. The Olympics are not about winning anyway.

I don't think you've got the idea of high level sports at all...
It's all about winning, even to the point of showing yourself to be the biggest turd in your sports history is ok, as long as you win. See also drug cheats

I think that you are harping back to a golden past when de Coubertin's vision still had meaning. Ever since the Soviet bloc cheated their way to showing the superiority of communism that ideal was toast (probably before, in all honesty). Making the Olympics open to professionalism has only increased the importance of winning on an individual level.

Rowing are easy medals. You need a lot of investment and internationally it is not very competitive.

Was there another single sentence in that post which couldn't have had the same comment applied?
