Its a shame the woman's sculls cant also do a 1000m, 500m, 2500m, forward, backwards as well...then we could clean up in the medals like the other countries do in swimming...

At least we have the kayaking to come, Lisa "Big guns" Carrington must be a serious contender again

They kind of have that in the kayaking.

They do, but not 6 or 7 gold medal opportunity kind.
They need to throw in some team versions, backwards, and about another 4 or 5 distances... -

What a 100m freestyle final.
Dressell wins it with an Olympic record whilst Aussie Kyle Chalmers only swam .06 seconds behind in trying to defend his Rio gold.
Thought he had him but Dressel held on. Dressel will clean up after this.

It really would. I'd watch that. They could ditch a few of the other sports to accommodate.

The NZ swimmers who have to date set new PB's or broken a NZ record have done a fucking great job.
Thats all you can ask of them really. -

Or simply hold individual races in 500m increments up to say 3km - that'll do it!

China have just set a WR to win the women's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay ahead of the USA and Australia.
USA and Australia both beat the previous WR with their times too. Crazy! Huge upset for Aus not to win after how dominant they were entering the final.

And they didn't look happy to finish with a bronze. Another 5 m and Ledecky would have touched first.

In the past I've been critical of the Olympics adding sports, or keeping sports in that may not 'belong'.
Maybe it's lockdown, maybe it's the 2020/1 vibe, but I've found that melting away this games and I'm genuinely enjoying every part of it.
Yeah surfing and skateboarding aren't traditional athletic pursuits, but I bloody loved both events. Seeing how much a gold medal meant to them was really cool. It gave them all such a rush.
I've watched pretty much every sport, and it's not all my cup of tea. But maybe that's what the Olympics of the future is going to be - a whole bunch of sports and you just pick and choose what you want and like. With more sports, there's going to be a wider audience but maybe not quite as deep.
Athletics and swimming will still be the central sports, but will I get into sport climbing? Hell yeah. Karate? Why not. BMX? Of course. I won't love it all but if there's a gold medal on the line then it at least gets my interest.

I'm pretty sure i can dig out a post from 5 years ago that says exactly the same thing but
Channel 7s prime time coverage, and Hamish McLaughlin can eat a fat dick. It's fucking prime time, i don't want to watch endless replays of Aussies from earlier in the day. I don't want interviews. I don't want to hear from the fucking families. I don't want a little social media segments. i want sports. All the sports. Last night i saw a snippet of the guy who came fucking 3rd in the Time Trial. A snippet!!! Did they show who won? Did they fuck. I did, however, watch Jess Fox fuck up her run about 18 times. And a fucking metre by metre breakdown of a swimming race.
Yes, before you say it, there is an app. But the internet at my house is positively 3rd world, and the outside TV is battling a bit. So i am stuck with the two channels. And by god do i hate Hamish.
And i can't wait for the swimming to finish so i don't have to hear from Basil fucking Zempa-whateverthefuckyournameis any more. What a bellend
