@mikey07 probably because he played for the Maori All Blacks. Loose forward / Prop are looking like a real weakness for Wellington this year. Will be interestsing to see who they pick in those areas.
I haven't seen too much of Whitman so can't judge too much but he may get the 8 jersey as there aren't too many other options out there.
-
@canes4life Can you see him taking Mitchell’s 5th locking spot then?
-
@canes4life didn’t even click about him being with the MABs, There’s some talented loosies coming through bit raw at the moment, Props always been our weakness not much there behind Armstrong, Fidow and Numia.
-
@canes4life I can only remember Whitman from playing for the NZ Māori U20s in their game against Fiji U20s. Not sure, but I think he's a cousin of the Thompson twins, who played in that same game? Also plays for Marist St Pat's.
-
@canes4life Sorry Delany…again I forgot about Plumtree in an ideal world we could have them both instead of Holland’s lovechild.

@mikey07 who are the loosies coming through that you rate?
Dominic Ropeti and Sione halalilo from OBU, Akira Ieremia from Tawa and Sam Smith from Wainui.

@canes4life TBN left on Tuesday, I haven’t heard anything about Whitman have you seen anything on him, but yes very weird a few Canes players aren’t lacing up for Wellington, I haven’t even seen Billy Proctors name on MSPs team list since the Canes finished.
There could be perfectly good reasons for him not making the MSP team like the Doolies coaches not considering him good enough to unseat the incumbent, or something as simple as not being a financial member of the club.
-
@bones Not at the moment!!! The incumbent is Ben Tuiatua who I know diddly squat about other than this appearing to be his first season at Premier level for MSP. He musty be getting a bit long in the tooth as he was playing Prem Reserve way back in 2010.
There is also a mention of someone that might be him being included in the Wgtn Samoan Squad in 2015 playing out of the Ories Club. http://www.collegerugby.co.nz/national/story.php?id=1591&page=12&sort=`date`+DESC&searchfield=&searchstring=

Where's Connor Garden-Bachop at with his rehab. Is he going to be back in time.
Here's a quote from the ODT article about the pre-season game with Southland.
"Most notable among the injured players was midfielder Thomas Umaga-Jensen.
The 23-year-old has had a horror run of injuries in recent years and picked up a ‘‘banged-up shoulder’’ in club rugby last Saturday.
Donnelly said the team was waiting on assessments to determine how bad it was and what it would mean for his role this year.

@southernmann haven't heard anything about CGB but I expect him to be named in the squad. Same with his bro.
That's shit for Thomas aye, what point as a player do you say enough is enough and start to look at another path?
-
He doesn't make your top 15?

I wouldn't move on even if injured all the time. He's young and banking 6 figures each year.

Soutland (extended) squad for the preseason game against Otago:
and Otagos teams for this game
Freedom getting a full game, glad to see hes back firing,
Faddes at 15, hopefully he hasn;t lost too much pace,
Gilbert at 10, we've talked about it but good to see them try it out
Sio at 13, normally a 12 or 14, another we change for him
big super names still being rested -
I'm happy it looks like Ray Nu'u is being given a good chance to stamp his mark on the 12 jersey.
The backs look really sharp. Just a shame about Thomas Umaga-Jensen. Such a talent
Front row is quite weak with our first stringers out.
