NBA Season - now 24/25

@tewaio Ice Trae was must watch TV.
When you need a 3 in money time, I don’t think you want Pat Connaughton shooting for glory. Especially when he had 4 points for the game and had only shot the ball 5 times up until that point.
Where’s the play for Jrue? He was 5 for 12 from 3 and had hit a couple of tough ones. Not a great finish for the Bucks and it was the lesser experienced Hawks that showed the composure.
-
The Hawks are punching so far above their weight and it doesn't seem like they feel the need to stop.
Giannis imploring his team to get to their heads in the game after the shimmy 3 from Trae was a bit of drama. TGF was pissed at that shimmy lol.
Trae went from a kid who was too small for the league, to potential rookie of the year. Then an all star, an all star that pulled his middling talent team into the playoffs. Now he's the man who took his team of developing talents past 2 of the most hostile and massive market teams back to back. He is a super star. No other way to describe him.

I always thought of him as a poor man's Luka with no rebounding given he's half a foot shorter. But he has really blossomed these playoffs.
That's a new one to me. You usually hear him being compared to Steph Curry.
-
I've read some bullshit about how these playoffs suck because all the "big names" of the past 10 years are all out
boo fucking hoo. Move on idiots
The reason they aren't there is some of the young lads are standing up. Trae Young is balling. Booker is driving the Suns forward. Then you have TGF trying to get the Bucks over the line. And that's without naming guys like Paul, George, and Leanard
oh but it's shit because LBJ isn't playing. And the finals are gonna be hosted in unusual cities. Fuck off.
Also, this "unprecedented injury" shit can fuck entirely off. The Raptors won a championship because two superstars went down at the same time. How healthy were the Heat by the Finals last year? Old guys get hurt more, or guys with a history of injuries get hurt more should not be a headline.

Absolutely, fuck those guys.
There are four teams left and I'm happy for three of them to win.
Of the three, I'd like to the Bucks to go all the way most, I guess. I'm not sure, because Phoenix are pretty fun too, and Trae is fucking wicked to watch when he is on.

More because they have been vying for the title of "best young player in the NBA" for the past 2-3 years. And they are the same draft class, having been swapped between teams on a draft day trade. And they are both PGs albeit very different styles.

@mariner4life LBJ is the one driving this truck. He's on of the guys crying that because the All Star break had all these super stars play without a rest they've not been able to get up for the playoffs.
I said as much on an Instagram post earlier in the week. Perhaps it's just that we are seeing a changing of the guard. New superstars.
It just sounds like a bunch of entitled arseholes are pissed and don't rate the new shiny super stars.
-
@raznomore I don't get this whinging about the short season turnaround... none of the players would've taken a 30% pay cut to play fewer games. Same money + fewer games shockingly doesn't work from a business perspective.
Bucks beat the Hawks like a rented mule so normal service resumes.
-
I totally get the complaining. They lost 3 months of rest. It's hardly unreasonable to expect the older athletes to be impacted by that, those that have spent 10+ years getting their schedule right.
It's not an excuse for anyone, but it's clearly had an impact on the seasons outcomes. And it's not like the complaints are new, they were all made before the season started.
As for the financial side , maybe the players would have made the same choice to play if asked to give up 30% of their salary. Very likely not, but who knows, they weren't given the option as far as I know.

Broooo, that's BS. What current older superstar doesn't pump up the new guys? You really think Paul, Lebron, Kawhi, KD, Curry, aren't embraced the new guys?
Who are these entitled stars you speak of???
-
@voodoo hey I'm still a fan. But let's not act like there's no duplicity here. Sure they gas the young guys but the moment they feel unseated or pushed out of their comfort zone a lot of the senior superstars get testy. This is an exact example Instead of celebrating that there may be a change of guard we are hearing this shit now. Case in point. Same shit at the All Star break. Same thing when the Lakers, for example, were made to go through the play-in tournament.
Something bigger than them is happening here and it's got nothing to do with player load-management.
-
@raznomore I dunno mate, what makes the greats great is the fact the they believe they're the best even when they no longer are. MJ, Kobe, now Lebron etc. Without that attitude you probably never make that level, Timmy D the rare exception!
All I'm saying is that I reckon the complaints are pretty legitimate this time around. The short off season was brutal, and the injuries this season are off the charts - coincidence??? I don't think so.
Likewise the play-in - I get the frustration. I understand why people like it, and what is can maybe do for meaningless reg season games. But at the same time I absolutely HATE that Curry carried that carcass of a GSW team to 8th spot then misses out on the chance to push Utah over 7 games because they blew 1 game against Memphis
Edit, just to add, before I inevitably get jumped on, LeBron is a dick. A try-hard, narrative-seeking, image-obsessed dickwad.
Just for clarity!
-
@voodoo I agree that there is a massive amount of narcissism required to push through to the next level(Duncan and probably IMO Curry excluded). That God level. But for it to hold water we would need to be seeing some pretty low bar playoff games. As in the playoffs were ruined because the big dogs aren't there. Like if it's just the best of what's left then there would be no entertainment. We've have a bunch of 7 game series. Some new superstars unearthed. Booker and Young especially. It's been great.
We're just going to have to agree to disagree mate.
