Attacking from the other end (even if costing two wickets) does seem to have opened things up for Kane a wee bit - slightly more defensive fields, less discipline with their lines.

And Foodbill de Mullet is overdue to do something genius with the ball too.

Need the tail to wag us into a first innings lead.

Not sure if the sun has helped a bit too. Definitely feels a little easier right now. Just a wee bit

@canefan With the sun out, it's looking easier to bat.

The Indian seamers have carried a workload and won't get much of a rest if Kohli would set a target - and what's he going to set?

I can't see him declaring just 200 ahead and anything more is going to take more than two sessions.

I agree. I done see him setting an easily gettable target. He won't want to lose by setting a low target. And they still have to face our attack on this pitch to get those runs. And fast

Could it be the ball also? The easiest batting has seemingly been with the new ball in both innings.

Have the Indian spinners even bowled a ball yet?

Doull reckons they might be tiring

I actually wonder if it's worth opening with Kyle and saving one of Southee or Boult for 10 overs in when it starts to swing a bit more. Though Kyle gets a lot of swing as well, but would be harder to face with his extra bounce.

Worth a crack. Kyle has been our best. Tim riding his luck. Big leading edge there evading all the fielders

    And we're ahead!!!

Crucial question - I presume those 4 byes and 4 leg byes are in our countback of boundaries? 🙂

I think we still need a couple more!

There is the first innings lead. We would have taken it at the start of the test, and probably at lunch! Good play this session fellas..

Alright fellas. We have the lead, 3 wickets in the bank, and Kane still at the crease. Things could be a whole lot worse that's for sure.

These two don't need to change anything about the way they are playing. If Southee goes then it'll be worth King Kane chancing his arm.

As we talked about earlier in the thread, a lead of even 50 is big in the context of this game.

Kohli has put a lot of miles into his pace bowlers, its a risk as they should begin to leak runs right as the sun comes out and batting gets easier. If we can keep partners with Kane we can really twist the knife here. I wish we still had another 1-2 wickets in hand!

    Gone.

If anyone was listening to the NZ radio commentary Craig Cumming absolutely took that wicket.
