that team really should be better than it is.
Is Leon MacDonald just another bog-average coach?
Can you be better than top of the table though?

FYI for those attending the game - The curtain-raiser is an Auckland 1A college clash between Saint Kentigern College and Mount Albert Grammar. Also children are free if accompanied by a General Admission ticketholder.

445 I think.
Anyone know if it'll be a good game and worth going early for? I don't know the form of any of the teams...

@nzzp MAGs should win.
Kelston are the team to beat this year. Even this early out I reckon they could potentially go all the way to winning the top 4. They have a very well balanced team, reminiscent of the MAGs 2016 title winning side. Majority Y13s who have played (rugby and league) together since the mini/mod - rippa rugby days. 3 or 4 out and out stars with a very very good 'supporting cast'. There 9 and 10 are both very good, calm composed game drivers; they have smarts, pace and power in the 3/4's but their strength is their forwards. Prop Tony Tafa, no.8 Lauaki (surely related) and no.6 Zyon Maiu'u could be playing NPC right now! Height in the lineouts is perhaps their only 'weakness' but they have most other areas covered. Great to have a strong, contending team from KBHS again.
The Kelston vs St Peters game will be the match of the round. Pity this one wasn't being played as the curtain raiser. -

The problems have been in the backs, because the talent in the forwards is so huge it almost doesn’t matter who plays. They just have looked all over the place at times. Starts at halfback with the choice of Ruru (to start or in reserves) who has brought energy but not accuracy or a great passing game. It is then complemented by Black at 1st who starts behind the line and runs sideways. They have now at least settled on Faiane at 2nd who is solid. Reiko who is extremely talented has had a high error rate this year and is a runner rather than a natural passer (both can work). 2nd half of the year they changed to Sullivan at Fullback which has been an improvement. The wingers, I can hardly remember who has played because the backline has been so disjointed inside them.

How noticeable hearing goldie talk about the highlanders as something he has no connection too after listening to mertz
