even a multi of 4 kiwi teams and the Brumbies pays less than $6

Berry gets rewarded with a top of the table clash.
And yet Amy Perrett can't get a gig. Astonishing.
-
@antipodean she changed her name to Graham Cooper so she could get paid the same as the other refs.
-
@bones lol after the Waratahs try where he blatantly impeded the Canes from tackling the ball carrier, I’m surprised he’s even reffing this week. That was also after an obvious crooked throw aswell which made it even more sceptical.

Side note on that - can a TMO rule on a crooked throw? It's the touchie's call rather than the ref, but on replay that throw was clearly bent enough to be called back.
I'm less worried about the ref obstruction, his positioning was fine and if an All Black did it he'd be lauded for an intelligent play. Aaron Smith has been doing it for decades.

I think the difference is that Smith isn't named as the ref, despite being in charge of the game.

ok, i have a feeling this is a loaded question
IF, we are committed to strickly a Trans Ta$man / Pacific comp....does that change anyones opinion on allowing AB qualified players playing for Aussie/PI teams?
Theyre not lost to NZ fans, still playing in the same comp, but might distribute a little of the talent, make this thing more competitive, maybe still have to be signed with a NZ NPC team

Why would you entrust the development of potential future All Blacks to the coaching and administration that's overseen their current malaise?
-
@antipodean i was more meaning established ones, ones that might actually make a real difference to the aussie teams
Personally i'm starting to think the total control of the development of all players is hindering things a little, i just want to watch some interesting rugby and i watch a lot more SR and NPC than AB's so id like them to be better

I'd be ok if Japan was involved somehow, and you had to be a senior All Black to "earn" the dispensation. But Aussies are already struggling with depth, playing NZ players wouldn't help that and we would just end up with NZers playing for Australia.

@kirwan dont get me wrong, im not 100% for it, just kind in of in my head
the way i see it is more long term, a few NZ players help to make the aussie teams a bit more competitive and then, assuming AU was run properly, they use that to grow the profile and get more young players in

It's worth exploring but probably needs some open thinking to be worthwhile. It may be a case that in order to get past the problems we have with isolation and stregth disparity that the franchise concept needs to be taken further to a controlled club like system where the best coaches and players aren't restricted by country.
-
@crucial agreed, i really wish NZR had spent more time making the franchises more attractive as far as outside investment and left the AB's alone, they way there running things the AB's are the only thing people think is worth anything and really limits things

@kirwan Daniel Braid was arguably in career best form when he played for the Reds, but was ineligible for both ABs and Wobbs.
I personally think there are grounds for a few marquee players to be given the option, especially if in the same comp as I think it would help the comp and the profile of the Aus/PI/Japanese team if this is where things go
