I thought that they may have used only home refs in each country to reduce costs but Pickerill got himself a trip.
He might like the place so much that he may decide to do a Steve Walsh Jnr and defect permanently.

For those in the UK, it's on Rugby Pass at £33 for all the games.

@victor-meldrew seems to be showing that I'll get it on my current plan where I'd paid for SRA for me. Tells me I can't upgrade on a prepaid plan.
Edit: flag that, was looking in the wrong place.

I was literally about to nominate @South-Africa-Man for Most Missed Ferner, and/or Most Level Headed Ferner - about 10 minutes ago... and then just couldn't be arsed.

Well all four finalists from last week struggled to have their heads in the game 100%. Sloppy hands, discipline, timing and just game management was poor from all of them.
The non-finalists had a huge advantage with a week rest training and planning for whoever was coming (Landers, Force)
Organisers need to sort that out.
Also need to have the draw flow on from the results of the home tourneys. Forcing (sic) a finalist on one side of the Ta$man to recover and get to Perth then travel back and forth for the rest of the tourney is a joke. (that's not an excuse for Chiefs brain fades but looking ahead to having a better comp). Same goes for Reds. Temperature changes are just something you have to deal with but you try and book a flight for a whole team plus extras from Brisbane with changes to Dunedin and see if it flows smoothly. Just extra tiring stuff on top of coming off a huge final.
A bit of thought could have had everyone at a more even level and not potentially sending them down a spiralling series of difficulty. -
While 5-0 won't really surprise anyone, was the quality (or lack of) that was of concern (from some of our teams too)
Hopefully round 2 will be better as teams adjust and settle in.
Sadly I dont see the officiating improving which has an impact on the games (but this is an ongoing issue)

@crucial a bit of leeway as Marionus (spelling? - head of ARU) said the draw had to be done weeks ago, and I guess there's a health crisis that makes things a tad less flexible, logistically.
Just seems like they didn’t take a step back and look at what they created to ask the question is anyone advantaged/ disadvantaged by this and how well will this work after finals.
-
Optimistically...
...maybe we'll only get the insipid "What was it like playing some different opposition from across the Ta$man?", or "What was it like playing a team with a different style after so long playing just <countrymen>?"
.... on the first round.
And - the next 4 rounds... they'll have to come up with more interesting questions? -

The whole thing is pointless. Unless there are pretty dramatic changes Aus will never be competitive.
It was actually fun playing ourselves.
Drop down to three teams to better utilise your depth and you’d have more success, and that would flow into the national team.

It seems that the yellow card thing is now being over done. The worst is the player on the wrong side slowing down the ball. Most are not deliberate but treated as such. If you make a dominant tackle ( I thought that was the aim ) you will always be at risk here. Don’t think these non deliberate penalties should contribute to offences adding up to a yellow card.
