@kiwimurph funding is largely trickle down as a result of the TV deal. So big views in Queensland do help the Rebels.
Seems to be how it works the world over. NRL salary cap is directly related to and funded by the TV deal, for example. EPL etc the most bloated and aggressive form.

I can easily see them dropping a game to the Clan
That's why it will be a great comp I reckon. The Clan did a real number on the Crusaders so who knows what next?

@snowy It could be the foundation of Champions Cup style thing.
That would make more sense IMO. A knockout 1v5, 2v4, type thing.
Trouble would be if one country got knocked out early.
Typical Champs Cup format does have a pool phase first, so teams (and their fans) are guaranteed at least some games before the knockouts.
Sort of like the RWC.

I think admins will be hoping for at least one Aussie win. A 5-0 whitewash will trigger cries of 'here we go again' from both sides of the Ta$man.

I expect that there won't be a team that gets whitewashed. Even the Tahs may get something in the win column. I also expect a number of people to be surprised at how competitive the two SRAu finalists will be.

@barbarian It would also be boring.

the $3.55 i got on the Reds seems fucking ridiculous

I get why they did it, but I'd have liked a one week break between the ending of Super AU/Aeo and the start of Super TT.
Gives the finalists a chance to recover, the chance for a bit more hype and coverage.
The Reds are our best side but I can easily see them dropping a game to the Clan given they lose at least Petaia and Wilson from their team with injury, and would be very tempted to rest some of their stars who would be buggered/hungover from a brutal last game.
I believe they had to start it right away because of the test schedule/preparation

To win the whole thing? Or just to beat the landers?

According to the TAB, the Reds are the only Oz team with a vague hope.
Canes $1.03
Crusaders $1.08
Chiefs $1.13
Blues $1.14
Highlanders $1.31 -

ESPN seems to disagree, ranking even the Western Force above the Hurricanes and Highlanders.
think the odds were for this weekends matches.. if you want to back espn on their thoughts you could earn a fair bit.. or lose it just as quickly

I think the Kiwi teams are unders, but there's still a very decent chance they all win.
The Force are the upset chance. Chiefs coming off a bruising final, Force plotting the ambush in Perth, time difference, home crowd, etc.
I think that game will be more competitive than many will expect. At very least I'll take a look at the Force at the line (+15.5) at $1.97.

Chiefs could well take a strategy of going for a decent lead with a close to 'A' team then getting the reserves on early. That points spread does look good.

They also have Murphy as the Ref who IMO is out of his depth.
He is so far behind Gardener and Berry who are decent refs. -
