Can't remember if it was this thread or another where it was mentioned we don't have a big bopper in the midfield, particularly at 12. One player I would encourage to develop in the midfield is big Leicester F. Not saying he is ready to go yet, but I have been quite pleased with what he has brought to the Sader's midfield.

I would prefer to see midfielders that are skilled at creating space and opportunities over a 'big bopper' . Bending the line can be done using a power wing and/or a hard running 6.

Agree, and that is why I said he is not there yet (if he gets there at all) In an ideal world we would find someone who is big and skilled.

It was more a reference to where I think Leicester should look to develop. I don't think he has the game
(speed) to be a long term AB winger.

@nostrildamus cant say I am sold on Laumape either , and it’s more around consistency, there are games where he absolutely rips up , but the best way you can ever gauge a player is when he comes up against the best team , locally the Crusaders and unfortunately most of the time , he’s either very quiet and that’s primarily because he gets shut down..
I see more as an impact player than a starter .

And no one has room for a specialist 12 on the bench.

I think Laumape is a very good player and one that (when he steps up) can change the shape of a game. Even when not fully firing he plays a role well, especially if you want a hard running 12 to play a hit and recycle game.

Sadly for him I don't think his future lies in the ABs. He would make very good money in Europe though and probably be a good piece of a coaches plans in a club season strategy.

Imo laumape has been borderline diabolical this season. A blind man would have more vision at times.

He actually has a really good kicking and passing game to go with his strong running, but as you say he has no vision at all to use them to his advantage. He's shown glimpses but he's not the answer at test level.

I didn't watch all the canes games so this is on a small sample set

if fozzie has the same approach as last year with 12 often looking for the crash ball and recycle, like Goodhue was doing...that might work for Laumape

It's evident to me that Laumape is trying to develop/ demonstrate more strings for his bow but in doing so he seems near invisible/ ineffective for large parts of games. Hardly showing form that would make him a strong contender for the 12 jersey.

@antipodean I'd rather try Jordie at 12. Massive boot, big frame, ability to pass. Honestly, he'd fill a hole for us.

I know this sounds very Hayman to 8, and it won't happen, but he ticks a lot of the boxes

Na, I’m hoping they’ll see how he goes on the wing. The lack of pace could really surprise a lot of defences.

Speed is overrated. Who needs a guy running quickly ? When someone glides as slow as Jordie it gives defenders far more time to doubt themselves.

*I wonder how highly they rate DMac at 15/10 cover.
**I'm not sure what is happening with RM/BB at 10 or BB at 15. I'd assume JB is ahead of his bro at 15.

Beaudy came out and said he wanted to play 10, so if he holds that line with Foster it will be him and Richie in the 10 and 22 jerseys.

However, if he's still willing to bend to Foster's two playmakers thing, then I don't think your assumption that Jordie is ahead is necessarily correct, because at the last AB waypoint Beauden was at fullback and Jordie on the wing.

I reckon they'll be pretty happy with DMac as their third first five - because from what I've seen this year, next in line is probably Mitch Hunt. Nothing against Mitch, but he's a substantial drop from our top two and I wouldn't want to see him as the number one goal kicker in a tight test.

@chris-b i can see your line of argument but I don't think they will put JB at wing again but they won't start without him so I doubt they'd start BB at 15. Then again I've been wrong before, I mean I wanted a Crusader to coach the ABs, what was I thinking!?

Hard to tell as the photo quality isn't the best but that could just be an old shot of Caleb Ralph.

I don't think they'll put him on the wing again either (I'll be heading for the "Fozzie Must Go" bandwagon if he gets played there ahead of Will Jordan). But, I also don't see that he's indispensable - I could readily see a team with Jordie on the bench - or even missing out on that to DMac.
