Hurricanes 2021
-
Hurricanes playing club rugby (as far as team lists are available):
Hawke's Bay
Danny Toala (Hastings)
Lolagi Visinia (Clive)Wellington
Vince Aso (Petone)
Pouri Rakete-Stones (Norths, not for his Hawke's Bay club Napier Pirate)Manawatū
Liam Mitchell (Te Kawau)Taranaki
Ricky Riccitelli (Tukapa)Auckland
Tevita Mafileo (Pakuranga)
Still no sign of Gareth Evans returning to play. I wish we had more info on his injury.
No Vaea Fifita for Wellington Axeman. Again suffering from concussion symptoms or another injury?
Does anyone know whether Atonio Walker-Leawere is any good? He's playing for Varsity (Manawatu) at LH prop. He was in the Hurricanes Under 18 squad in 2018, so still quite young. -

No idea what has happened there. He was a late replacement from the bench for the Chiefs game and the commentators said they were going to comment on the changes after the ANZAC Ceremony but never did. You never know the reasons why players do not get selected in the Canes lineup so it could be something as minor as passing wind in the team bus on the way to the ground or as major as signing to play overseas.

@mikey07 And he definitely won't unseat J. Blackwell from the starting lineup. Are we looking at IWL moving to take Bryn Evan's spot in the Highlanders? At least there is infinitely more chance of him getting starts down there than there is in Wellington.

That signing is pretty funny considering I've used Dominic Bird as a joke on more than one occasion.
I'm thinking Dominic will take the place of Liam Mitchell.
I'ts also going to be hilarious when Blackwell and Dominic partner up in the line-out.
Note: he's also signed for the Wellington lions.

Faced a challenge to unseat any of Messrs Cridge, Parsons, Evans (B), or IWL for a spot in his home province squad! Maybe they are all holding contracts for 2021 which sort of shuts out any others coming in?

Le'aupepe needs to be replaced too.
The Canes having two 2 m+ locks. Who would have thought...

You didn't need to add that, it goes without saying.

@toddy massive improvement on what we have currently. Hope we don't lose IWL because of it though, wish it was at the expense of Blackwell.
He's actually had a few starts this year so I expect you wont lose him.
Will be hilarious next year when Blackwell keeps starting over one of Bird or IWL.

@nepia That was what I was thinking; still a pity he won't play for his home province, though.
It's all good, we got BBBR because he chose Canterbury over the Hawkes Bay.
Maybe our locking spots are full or his Wellington Hurricanes contract is tied into Wellington province contract?
Canterbury and Crusaders, comes to Chiefs who help him regain form and an AB jumper anbd repays them by chasing the $$ overseas, returns and signs with Wellington (franchise and province) - the dude is as dead to me as Jason Taumalolo.
