Chris Wood on a first half hat-trick against Wolves.

4 consecutive seasons of 10+ goals in the EPL playing for a side that don't create all that many chances. He's had a really good career and has developed from a battering ram into a good all-round centre forward.

What he's achieved is pretty remarkable and he must be close to being one of our most underrated sportsmen at the moment. At least he'll probably be being paid pretty well. I'm really interested to see whether he has another big move left in his career or whether this spell at Burnley is his peak. It's interesting to compare to Nelsen who was brilliant at Rovers and kind of faded away when he moved to spurs.

@cyclops Apparently Wood is on around 3 million pounds a year.

Nelsen was already 34 when he moved to Spurs - was always going to be just a squad depth player.

Seems there is a story floating around that Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patty Viera are partnering up with the dude who started Spotify to buy Arsenal

He could be a useful second striker at a bigger club. But at his age I think he wants to play. Of course is they offered to double his wages......

It was only last year there were rumours linking Wood to a move to Lazio.

Which shows how squad players at the top teams earn more than the stars at the lower teams.

Looks like Fulham are goneburger and you get to enjoy the rough and tumble of Division 2 next season. 4 wins in 5 could well be enough but 5 wins in 33 doesn't make that a statistical probability.

@kiwipie I think we will be stuck in the Championship for a while. The team ran out of juice and froze when they got destiny in their own hands. I can't see them bouncing straight back up again.

Too many of this team will go as will Parker in all likelihood. Disappointed about the first, mixed feelings about the Manager though. Too conservative. Set the team up to not lose, even when we needed wins. I think his inexperience has been shown up and talk of him being right for Spurs etc is laughable.

Man City beat Crystal Palace yesterday. They could secure the EPL 2020-1 title today if Liverpool beat Manure.

I've heard Spurs are keen on Wood as a replacement for Harry Kane if he leaves.

That's one way of stopping Man City winning the League today:

The US owners of the teams still won't sell despite all of the protests. I'm happy to be wrong.

@bovidae They might own the club but they don't own the fans, many of whom have three or four generations of family loyalty to the club. Which is the bigger investment is up for debate.

yeah, think they'll probably buy into the "no such thing as bad press"

Man U already have a protest club, FC United of Manchester, wonder if they'll get a small jump in interest

@higgins They are investors, so will only be interested in the valuation of the club, not the fans. If the fans want to make an impact boycott the games when they are allowed to return to the stadiums. Hit them in the pocket.

The United fans have been unhappy ever since the buyout.

They are effectively owned by a hedge fund and a large percentage of the cost of the purchase was a loan taken out by the club itself.

Example - I bought your company for $50m when it had no debt and $40m of the purchase price was a debt to the company. So the company has to service $40m of debt when previously the company was debt-free.

(I've probably simplified this way too much but it is the major difference between this ownership and Man City, Chelsea)

I agree with Graeme Souness that a lot of yesterday simply has to do with Man U's fans' longstanding grievances about the Glazers' management of their club and very little with the now abandoned ESL. Truth is, though, only the Saudis or the Chinese have the kind of money to buy Man U and there's no guarantee either of those owners will be any better than the Glazers

@junior I'm not talking about the Glazers specifically but all US-owned clubs. I could care less about Utd. 🙂

Although I agree on the first point completely, I don't on the second one.

There's plenty of money around outside oligarchs and China who could afford to buy these clubs. Unfortunately, there's only so many of them who are stupid enough to think it could be a worthwhile investment. There's a reason why only one of the clubs is owned by a US investment company & there's also a reason why they are the most hated owners by their fans (although they do have some stiff competition).

Hence, my views on Silver Lake.
