How about Els on the first hole? Never seen ANYTHING like it, especially from such a big name at a major.

So bizarre, and indicitive of some mental issues. He did something similar at the Open a few years ago, on the first hole as well IIRC.
-

I've been doing a bit of work with Ernie on his putting of late - I heard he had the yips so offered some advice...

That amounted to watching Happy Gilmore so no idea why he choked so hard!!! C'mon Ernie, it's all in the hips bro!!
-

I'm trying to find footage.

Did he 7 putt?
-
-

Yep, 7 puts for a 10 shot hole. Doh!

PGA website has Danny playing under a Korean flag.

NZ tho on masters website http://www.masters.com/en_US/players/player_29926.html?r=lb&promo=bio_lb
-

woohoo, I have had a 6 putt before (the fact I was even par after 9, putting for a 12 ft bird straight downhill sucks even more)

Love the Masters!
-
Ernie! WTF?
-

if Danny is still a kiwi, then, that's awesome mate! well done.

If he's korean, then meh, what ever.

I know it's only the first round, but after last year, Speith alone at the top by a couple of shots looks ominous.
-

I believe he needs to 'remain' a Kiwi otherwise he needs to return to Korea to do Military service, just as Bae-Sang-Moon currently is.

Still can't get over the Els thing. The guy is a 4-time major winner, a future hall-of-famer.

This will be played for the next century, in every 'sporting meltdown' compilation video ever ever. And it's #1 with a bullet. Never seen anything like it.

I've seen the footage a few times now, and there are a few weird things I can't get over:

1. He actually is trying for 4 of the 6 putts. Lines it up, stands properly, the works. I've seen a few similar 3/4/5 putts from close range where the guy clearly isn't trying, and just whacks it with the back of his putter or something. But that wasn't this.

2. The way he looks at his caddy after each putt, as if he's been handed the wrong club or something. Or he doesn't know quite what's going on, what game he is playing.

3. I actively wanted them to cut away at a certain point. We were watching a man have a mental breakdown live on TV and we saw everything.

But the most truly remarkable thing is...

... he shot +1 from that point onwards!! What a fucking amazing recovery. If that were me I would have thrown all of my clubs in the nearest lake and sprinted off the course. Yet he stays and shoots the same score as Jason Day, the world number 1, in the remaining 17 holes.

How you can go from being so thoroughly humiliated to actually competing on a tough, tough day at Augusta is a fucking remarkable achievement.
