All Blacks 2021

I’m also pretty sure that TJ is on sabbatical and they’ve got in wrong. He is not signed for 2022, but he’s signed until the end of 2021 - thus still eligible

I would've thought contracted would be enough. But if 20 minutes off the bench for a provincial side is all it takes then it isn't a massive hurdle. Not the RPA actually. Have had a look at that and there is a clause that says that national team selection is also dependent on the NZRU National Teams Selection Policy.
That policy wording is harder to track down but in essence is where the NZRU put in place things like not selecting overseas based players.
I did find an old press article (2004) about Henry wanting Reihana and Blowers to be eligible for selection if they returned from the UK."Under NZRU eligibility criteria for overseas players to be eligible for selection for the All Blacks, a player must be eligible under IRB regulations, be contracted by the NZRU, be resident in New Zealand and play, or be available to play, for a New Zealand team in the NPC or Super 12 competition immediately preceding the selection of the All Black team or squad.
However, the policy also says that, at the discretion of the board, a player could on a case by case basis be granted exemption from the fourth criteria."
The NZRU back then were unwilling to waive the fourth criteria due to the possible signal it would send to players (ie play overseas then come back and immediately play for ABs). My guess is that opinion still stands.
So the comment about Perenara was probably correct and he would have known this before going. He needs to come back, sign with Welly and/or the Canes and play, or be available to play, before he can be selected for the ABs.
Club rugby won't suffice so he needs to. NPC dates aren't out yet are they? He’s still signed with NZR until the end of 2021, and is on a sabbatical - so they have it wrong he can play this year, same as BB and BBBR

@tim far out. His analysis skills are limited, and showed up in his coaching.
He is an incredible human being, but I would prise the commentary microphone out of his hand. Coasting on reputation.
Obviously one of my favourite players, but have to agree.
These breaks for opportunities for the players is how we are keeping the best players in NZ. It's a compromise, and if you start being punitive about it they will just leave and not come back.
How would that help the All Blacks?

If you read the whole thing what he said makes more sense.
The rancid bait of saying that BB and BBBR shouldn't come straight back in was a tool to push his barrow about Japanese rugby and how we should open our rugby borders to them and be able to select from within those borders.
Should BB and BBBR automatically start? Not really. Depends on if they are coming in straight off easy games or not. In the 23 to get used to things again for sure. I'm sure that the coaches won't be selecting them on reputation alone.
As for TJ, it's his opinion that we are in a place with halfbacks to secure the services of a couple of players for the same price as re-signing him. Considering that he is only a backup player anyway I can see some logic there. Let's get a backup going that will take over from Nugget eventually. -

JK is definitely sounding a bit Abe Simpson on this one. Didn’t he fuck off and play overseas on a regular basis ?
He played league FFS!
Like I said though. The headlines make no sense but he used them to grab attention to the real points he was making. Typical media tactic now days.
The odd person might watch the show now because they think they might hear something controversial. Instead they will just hear rambling opinions.
They could just come here for that. -
@stargazer after NPC last year I would have had Nock up there, different player to Fakatava, but was probably right behind him as form 9s of NPC.
But he hasnt really fired up this season, and with him, Christie and Ruru playing musical chairs at the Blues, I dont expect any of them to get a real chance to put up thier hands.

@crucial That backup was meant to be Fakatava, but then he got injured. I haven't seen any other young player who is of the same level as Fakatava.
Nor have I but would I make TJ a low short term offer in order to have the money to offer Fakatava a long term one plus room to add in A.Nother?
Yep.What's Taufa Funaki doing progression wise? He was one for the future wasn't he?

@stargazer I got an invite yesterday from a sponsor for a Barbarians game against Samoa that is happening at the end of November at Twickenham. Very strange that the NZRU can't reveal anything much about tests that are set to happen in July, August and September.
