Probably it is covered as theft, or one of the myriad of dishonesty offenses.

I don't think the police are interested - it's a copyright infringment ... so you have to own the copyright, and want to prosecute.

Theft doesn't fly as you dont' deprive someone of the object by making a copy of it

@frye gotta pick up Spark for the cricket. Only another month though so it's not too bad.

spot on. $25 a month, cancel any time

They don't accept non-NZ credit cards unfortunately. Looks like it's half over already anyway!

yeah. There are (ahem) quasi illegal options available of course on the internet

    "Quasi" ?

It's possibly somewhat of a grey area, streaming video from overseas. As the recipient it could be hard to get pinged... As the streamer it's a lot clearer about the copyright breach

Yes my understanding is that it is clearly illegal to be the streamer but unclear about watcher.

Probably it is covered as theft, or one of the myriad of dishonesty offenses.

from 2016, but sounds like 'who knows, not tested in court' for receiving a stream. Unless the law has changed of course:

    May 22, 2016  /  New Zealand

Law unclear over live-streaming - lawyer

Law unclear over live-streaming - lawyer

Suing people who watched an illegally streamed video falls into a grey and untested area of law, say legal experts.

    Yeah you're probably right.

When did Nicholls start opening? I was slightly surprised but then I vaguely recall this started last summer. Or was it earlier?

Conway doing his best to drag this out to the allocated time by test match batting.

It started just before the World Cup but wasn't cemented until the latter stages of the World Cup when finally realized Munro wasn't up to job. He played quite a good innings in the final.

Oh right. That rings a bell now.

In my defense we don't play much ODI cricket these days.

All good. Let him bat for a while and get used to international cricket. If he ends up not out on 30 or so that'll do.

Well this result surprises no one. Good to see Nicholls do ok at the top of the order and Boult bowl well but what else can you say about an 8 wicket win with 172 balls left !!!!!

    @frye

The T20I on the 28th will be live on TV1 (the first game of each T20 series has been FTA).

But how will we be able to tell the difference between T20I and ODI?

One is pointless but mildly entertaining, the other is approaching a sporting contest that resembles cricket?

Crazy stat that one about the game being our fifth ODI since the CWC final in '19! So all we've had was a short series against India last summer then one game in Sydney in March in a Covid/Jacinda-abbreviated series (I was over there, was a crazy couple of days). That series was initially rescheduled for early this year in Canberra, Hobart and Adelaide but ultimately also called off. So we may have played 6 or 7 games. Was there a winter tour scheduled for last year originally?

Aaannnd, they both are necessary to pay for the real cricket in white, particularly the pointless one. Imagine sevens propping up test match fifteens? 🙂

@siam For sure, and I still watch the pointless one in order to support the real one. I consider it charity.

Comment about sevens probably not so valid (for NZ anyway, I don't think sevens does much to help 15s). I spent 3 days each year, for 15 years (at least) propping up 15's in Hong Kong though.

Getting on the piss for three days is my kind of donation to sport.

Watched the extended highlights. That's a very weak Bangles side unfortunately, they are unlikely to post a total they can defend with that lineup.

Definitely. I’d rather the BCs bat first for some practice, as condescending as that sounds.

Black Caps chose to bowl again on what looks a batting friendly pitch.

We’ve contained them pretty well except for pie chucker Neesham who’s gone for 61 from his 8 overs.

    229/4 from 45
