Highlanders v Crusaders

Tony, how about getting a set piece that can win its own scrums and a reserve hooker who can throw the ball? You'd likely win that game with both, and go close with either.
Edit: And perhaps take a few more of those shots at goal if you can't fix the above?

Ha! Both teams will be in the final. Too many Chiefs and Blues fanboys commenting on the thread! Landers need to find a scrum and a lineout drive though....

Hah if it wasn't for Chiefs and blues fanboys commenting on this thread there wouldn't be any point having it up.

@kiwimurph "“If you look at tonight's game that's what sad about rugby at the minute,” he said. “We had 60 per cent possession, 60 per cent territory...we only concede eight penalties and they're conceding 19 penalties and numerous penalty advantages against them and then two yellow cards and they still win."
Replace rugby with Highlanders or any other team trust is obviously inferior to the opposition. The fact the saders had all those punishments and still won showed the class difference. It Also showed the Highlanders were fucking stupid for not taking the 3, seven times the arrogant cocks, if the captain had used those penalties game to Landers.

You are quite right that the Clan should of made more of their chances, but up to a point Brownie is right, a good defence and set piece is all you need to win rugby these days, and I not sure rugby is better for it. I love the game and have for almost all my 66 years on this earth, but although I really enjoyed game, thought the Crusaders really deserved win, it does make me a little disappointed this is how we winning games. Same as Scott Barrett is one and has been one of my favourite players, but starting to find his cynical penalties beginning to pall a bit, and think razor needs to give him a bollocking, he is his captain.

@bones maybe a bit harsh, and it aint like I havent been wrong before, but thier set piece looks like it will struggle against the other sides, which will put all other aspects of thier game under pressure, Smith only has so many rabbits in his hat!

In fairness, he not stupid, he’s aware we should have made better advantage, the point was the saders just kept giving away penalties in their own half/22, he’s saying it’s sad that seems to be legit strategy

They also need a better kicking game.
A lot of that possession, particularly in the first half, was against a well set defensive line and it was going nowhere. Who cares if you dominate possession if it's easy for the defence to deal with?
Then on attack there was the poor option taking of those cross kicks and terrible execution. I see Brown criticised that out in the post match interview.

Taylor try was forward pass from Whitelock.
Maybe. Those short passes that might be marginally forward get missed all the time. It deserved a try because of the Tu'u poor effort
Incidentally Tu'u only made 3 tackles in the match. He finished last year with a string of low effort games on defence too. Good attacker, but need to add more to his game.
I thought they subbed the wrong loosie first. Frizell was going well and got subbed at 49mins. He's comfortable at SR level

It's only a legit strategy if the opposition play into their hands. By going for the line out 7 times, failing every time, rather than after a couple of failures starting to take the penalty points on offer. That was stupid, Highlanders leadership should take an uppercut
-
@machpants no ones arguing the highlanders didn’t make the wrong choices...he’s saying that even after that..continuing to commit fouls is cynical
One doesn’t justify the other
How did sio play? Do anything, never showed up i the highlights
-
@kiwiwomble my point is that if they were cynical (and not from being inaccurate as Robinson says) taking 3 and putting them behind on the scoreboard would have stopped it.
Sio was a bit like Goodhue, mostly anonymous
-
@machpants and everyone agrees with your point, but it’s not unreasonable, if it was cynical rather than what Robinson describes, to call out what it was and that approach would have dictated how the game was played
The emphasis isn’t/should t just be on team B to stop team A playing in that fashion
Great, earning his pay...

He didn't get carded!
The ABs have been doing it for years, knowing that is very rare for a team to beat them in multiples of 3. I just think it's nothing new, cest la vie
