Except the Tongan Bear had a brain infarct running it out near the sticks. Lucky it did not cost them points. That was pretty dopey.
-

Kings are regularly jumping into the gap and into the Hurricanes players at the lineout to disrupt them

Got beyond fucking obvious that -
A couple of law questions/observations.

- Ball was kicked dead from the kick off.

1.1 why not just force it? It doesn't have to go dead to get the scrum when it is from a kick off.

Unless that rule that has been around for 15 years has changed.

Appreciate any clarification.

1.2 unless I am sadly mistaken a lineout at halfway is NOT an option from kicking the dead. Nor is it an option when the kick off did not go 10m. It is only an option if the kick off goes out on the full.

Clarification appreciated if I am incorrect. But as the ball did NOT go into touch you can't have a lineout.

So players (and commentators Sumo ) should stop making fools of themselves (unless I am) by trying to take a quick lineout when it is not an option.

- A maul was called held up in goal after it was pushed back into the field of play.

I would have thought "held up in goal" would only come into play if the ball became unplayable. As the maul was still live surely it was play on until the maul finished and therefore should have defender's scrum.

Again clarification appreciated.

Was at the game tonight and man was it a hard watch. Way too many butchered tries by the Canes, TJP would never be recognised as an All Black by an unknowing spectator, some of his passing was poor as was his picking of when to run or not. The Kings offered virtually nothing constructive on attack and really dragged the Hurricanes down to their own inept level.

Â

About the only area they won in the game was their victory over the referee not twigging that there must be something untoward going on given the abnormally high number of stoppages for injuries to Kings players. Pretty much at the conclusion of most phases of play there seemed to be a Kings player lying on the ground forcing the referee to stop play to enable them to be attended to. Really slowed the game to a crawl in the second half. My watch indicated there was about 58 minutes of running time in the second half ie 18 minutes of down time for injury stoppages and TMO referrals.

Â

There was one bonus however and that was seeing with my own eyes that Geoffrey Cridge is for real and not a figment of my imagination. He even managed to get through five minutes without getting injured. Will try and get my admission ticket autographed as it commerates such a rare occurance!!!!

Rumours also have it that Hugh Renton took part in a Premier Reserve club match here today. Is this the first time a fully contracted Super Rugby player has played for a Club's second team?
