Pakistan all out for 239 and that's stumps. Faheem unfortunately falls for 91, but they avoid the follow on.
That's niggly but at the very least the BCs don't have a couple of annoying overs tonight.
Tom squared will want to atone for the first innings ( says MN5 wisely stating the fucken obvious )

Live stats are a funny old thing.......
It's common fern wisdom that Boult pretty much walks into an all time test team with a very good record of 274 wickets at 28.02........But Southee has 298 wickets at 28.63 and is pretty much never mentioned..........over their careers that's a difference of precisely fuck all.......I wonder why Boult is so much more revered and admired than Timmy ?
Boult's ODI record is superb. Different game but it plays into people's perceptions.

If it was a straight pick between the two and we are playing at home, I’d pick Southee.

@MN5 they've picked Sanga as the keeper when I'm fairly certain he didn't keep at all during the decade. That's not fair on other keepers as it's damn hard keeping and batting in a test.
Also Anderson and Broad? They don't exactly strike fear into the opposition unless they are at home and the ball is hooping around.

Speaking of milestones, Southee takes 2 in an over to leave Pakistan at 60/5, and he moves to 298 test wickets - 2 to go to be our 4th bowler to reach 300.
4th? Hadlee and Vettori both passed 300 wickets. Is there another player who I can't remember?

Yeah not sure they get in to be fair.
As good as our team has become we can’t really gripe with KW being the only one to walk in.
Kallis shits all over Stokes but only played three years so that counts him out.

Kept in one test apparently. About as much of a joke as the English guys in that team.

Seems as good a spot as any to post this. I wouldn’t have Stokes, Boult, Starc or Hazelwood possibly sneak in or maybe AB De Villiers depending on the team balance ?....rest seems ok though
Genuine question ... does anybody remember the English bowling attack being the best of the decade?
It may well be a fair reflection of the decade results, I honestly don't know.

Starc-Hazlewood-Steyn would put the shits up most batting lineups.
Anderson has a pretty handy record overall but isn't really a stand out. No way in hell Broad should be there.
If we're going by stats then I don't seen how Vernon Philander misses out - 22 average with a 50 strike rate which is significantly better than all of the other contenders.
Really it should be Steyn - Philander - Starc/Hazlewood.
Steyn is miles ahead of everyone with a 22 average and 42 strike rate. He was some player.

Cummins is the best of the Aussies. Not enough Tests to make your rankings?
-
@MajorRage said in Black Caps v Pakistan:
So surely bat two sessions and bowl after tea must be the plan? Set target around 400?
Few strike wickets key for Pakistan. Although it seems pitch is easy to stay in, but not score runs
I wonder if they pull out before tea to have one of those tricky short sessions before a break. We lose three overs but that shouldn't make a difference.

You're right, and I'll admit to somewhat overlooking him due to the lesser number of tests he played compared to the other two. He took a while to break into the test team, but the number don't lie, he is world class and it's pretty laughable that the Englishmen were picked ahead of him and the other Aussies.

Question: if we play Australia at Lords in the final, is it with a Dukes or Kookaburra?
I asked the same question a while back and nobody seemed to know.
All that I could find was this comment:
*"The rules as stated say it's up to the home board. Which would practically be the team that tops the chart at the end. However the ICC will be releasing the playing conditions specifically for the final early-ish next year that can (and probably will) change that. There were reports going around a few months ago it would be Dukes. I've heard it's more likely to be the ball brand neutral to both teams so we'll see what happens."*
I wouldn't rely on that sauce either.
