Unlucky Players not to get a SR Contract

Couldn’t agree more.James Parsons would be the ultimate squad man,a wise head on old shoulders, and mentor to those coming through. The Blues are now attracting players to come to the region, and no one can deny them their change in fortune.Kurt Eklund will no doubt be seen again this year as well.

Geoff Cridge and Tom Parsons are unlucky, too.
I'm more surprised the Bryn got one at the lenders over them
-
@Magpie_in_aus Yeah, but from what I read in the media, they have mostly signed Bryn Evans for his experience (mentoring role).

@Daffy-Jaffy Pleased to hear this. But, I really do wonder about the commonsense in that. Niuia unproven after a long term injury and Vikena the same. Eklund is right in that 'next best' group outside the AB's in my eyes. Of the 4 hookers who is the more likely to be first choice by end of 2021? (Tolai?.......)

Okay so Kane Hames replied to my comment on Facebook (doxxing myself lmao). Fletcher Smith off to Australia?
With a name like that, you could have been a stalwart of English club rugby!

Otago wing Freedom Vahaakolo is another player who many would consider unlucky not to earn a full contract. I've heard from a few Highlanders fans this morning who are staggered Sam Gilbert and Scott Gregory are preferred to someone like him.

Robert van RoyennI think both Gregory and Gilbert had existing contracts so its more a case of Aliamalo v Vahaakolo for an outside back spot (even though its more 15 v 14)...and it becomes a bit more clear, disappointed though

It's simply contracting.
Parsons and Niuia were already on multi year contracts that run through next season.
Eklund was on a 1 year deal last season.
If they signed Eklund they risk losing Vikena and visa versa. Through injury they've managed to keep both.
Tolai wasn't contracted last year so is the unlucky one this year.

To start the ball rolling here is my reserve squad of 23 - available at some stage for WTG's (Tua & Allan injured), and NZ-eligible (no Lambourn or Ili), and not in Sevens squad:
F Smith, McKay, Vaha'akolo, Walden, Poihipi, McClutchie, Milo-Harris, Roots, Finau, Choat, Cridge, Parsons, Coxon, Iosefa-Scott, Eklund Res: Tofa, Leger, Ratima, Jacobson, Carroll, Lindenmuth, McIlroy, Tolai
Who else do you see as the leading contenders?

I had a sneaky suspision we might have brought in Nasi Manu with an eye to experience and leadership

for the record

@Kiwiwomble Himeno is a bloody big halfback......

@KiwiMurph With the addition of Squire he may need to consider a change of position to get a start now. Can he do a good Tanaka impersonation?
he'd kill someone if he tried this

Josh timu I think is very unlucky
