Anyone else going to pick a 38 man squad for their team? Midfield looks the hardest to cover this year.

@Tim I had already done that for the Chiefs with some bracketed players.

Wonder if anyone will try to sign Meihana Grindlay away from the Blues?

All five NZ Super Rugby coaches will be on the Breakdown tonight to discuss the makeup of their squads for 2021. They won't officially be announcing the squads until later in the week which seems odd considering they used the Breakdown to announce them in 2019.

Perhaps all coaches will be doing this:

Don't miss our Head Coach Clayton McMillan on Sky Sport NZ's The Breakdown from 8.30pm tonight on Sky Sport 1 for the announcement of TWO NEW PLAYERS & some huge rugby chat!

    1. Blues and Chiefs have only named 37.

@Bovidae The Blues site squad announcement page says that there is one more player to be added but does not say which position. I would guess midfield but they did run with 8 loose forwards last season'

@Daffy-Jaffy It is interesting to look at the breakdown of the squads by position in that graphic. Both the Crusaders and Highlanders have selected 7 props. There are differences in the number of loose forwards and outside backs too. Obviously some players aren't correctly assigned to a position.

I tried posting it as a picture, but it's too big.

Here's a pdf with all 2021 Super Rugby squad lists on one page:

Earlier this year, there were a few complaints about the lack of tall locks in NZ. The Hurricanes were playing Blackwell and the Chiefs the likes of Brown, Ardron and Ah Kuoi in the second row.
And now, the selectors let go overseas Sam Caird and Jack Whetton, and let guys like Parsons, Cridge and Will Tucker outside the squads. Where is the logic ?

It's weird, there doesn't seem to be any logic, the system seems a bit broken.

Then don't call them Pasifika. They could be the South Auckland Browns.
