I watched that game live, then again on replay with an Aussie mate who hadn't seen it. I'd told him before the game (he knew the result) that it was the best performance by a 10 that I'd ever seen. He was sceptical.

Around HT I asked him if he agreed, and he said (like a true aussie) "hmm, not bad, reckon I've seen better.

I asked him what else Carter would need to do to get the performance over the line and he said "score another try".

Cue Carters 2nd, the conversion from the sideline, and a walkoff with 10mins to go

    Farking beautiful

@voodoo reminds me of the "fights" I had with an ocker mate for years:

    Matt Burke or Christian Cullen?

@voodoo yeah, but for all round game and goal kicking it's not cut and dried with respect to "who would you rather have?"

And at least one game where Burke buried us - that huge try he scored hurting his shoulder.

Burke and Cullen are neck and neck in terms of value - I'd take Burke just because his goal kicking was often the difference for us (RWC99 SF v Boks) and was massive for scoreboard pressure.

It really comes down to who else you have in the team as kicker for me. Cully if you do, Burke if you don't.

Combinations being the key - Burke fit into his backline and Cullen fit into his (until they went and fucked with that backline and it all went to custard).

I've got Dan at 10 kicking goals, so I'll take the Cullen attack

No slight to matt burke though, who is genuinely one of my favourite players ever, and a hell of a top bloke.

He got a bit prissy about being shifted to 13 for Rogers tho - reading his book he's all "I didn't want to upset team harmony but I was fucking filthy"

Yes. Yes you are. You could have put Cully at centre and made absolutely sure but you have done enough.

Can't blame him for that. A league ring in gets his spot? I'd be pissed as well.

Burke was a mate's neighbour. He said that he was a good bloke.

I would've been too. He was better than Rogers. In fact that whole period of RA overpaying for pretty average players to code swap would've upset me as a rugby player.
