Was a weird game of 7s to watch with both teams kicking for territory at times - the game of 7s really has developed differently in the past couple of years. NZ basically play a 15s style now, of making contact, setting rucks if need be then going again.

I was hurling abuse at Baker when he kicked down field, then the Saffas kicked it back :ireful: - Cullen would have scored even more tries if the opposition kicked to him back in the day.
-

NZ certainly look to be building nicely with an eye firmly on Rio me thinks, then when you consider some of the players to come back as well (Ioanes, Savea, SBW) is Curry and another? is still injured?

-

Modern day sevens is all about controlling possession and NZ did that so well in the final by physically dominating SA at the breakdown. Aust did that to NZ in the pool game in Sydney until the last possession.

The SA sevens teams relies on speed but didn't have enough ball to exploit that advantage.

Webber and Pulu are the other main players that are injured.
-

DJ was massive in that game. He has certainly got his engine retuned as twice he tracked back to SA breakouts and made the vital steal/penalty.

What I saw of him this tournie, he was also showing renewed vigor on with ball in hand. Popped up a couple of times on a good line or in a good spot, beat defenders with step/power/pace and delivered a deft pass to continue an attacking movement.
-

Have to feel a little sorry for Canada in their home tournament though. Put in some top performances only losing one close game (Wales) and beating Russia, Australia, Brazil, France and England.

Sadly for them their pool was split with Wales, Aus and Canada all ending up on the same points and they dropped out of the main draw on pts difference.

Losing one and beating England and Australia along the way would normally get you much higher results.
-

I thought Messam had a good game. Looks trimmed down

he was saying after rwc that he had to lose 10kgs to play sevens.. wonder how much he's lost. 10 kegs is a fair chunk of muscle to drop off
-

I doubt it is the case these days that how have to shed so much for Sevens. Sure the aerobic requirements are much higher so you will drop some weight to help there but impact at the breakdown or busting up the middle of the field still gives size an advantage.

I think it is a bit of a balancing act.

There were photos prior to Vegas of Messam posing with Joseph Parker and Messam looked a beast in comparison.
-

Forbes looks in great shape too!

for a fella in the twilight of his career and just back after a lay-off, he certainly hasn't been sitting around talking rugby on the internet!

IT is the reason he handed up the captaincy though. Wanted to concentrate on rehabbing and getting himself physically up to one last shot at the Olympics. Titch backed his decision and it may well pay off. His experience certainly showed out there.
-

Forbes was rated sexiest man at the Common Wealth Games by the Indian public.

That just shows how different the fitness and body size requirements are for both games. Messam looked ripped when the NZ team did the Haka yesterday. He must be on a strict exercise and diet regime to lose that weight.

no homo, but he looked fucking great. I never picked him as looking that "athletic"
-

I saw a CGW piece on him - he was working with sprinting squads to improve his speed - really pleased it is showing on the field.

Wonder if Kaka was carrying an injury for a while - his speed is back and it is long-term speed as well which Titch seems to favour over "nippiness".

The clampdown on high tackles made it a bit of a lottery at times - seemed like any hit around the shoulders was being pinged - and usually that is the target in Sevens as you don't want them offloading.
