Yeah, that was good. Wish Jack would put the weights down and get outside for some sprint work though...

Wouldn't the squats be helping with that too? More power?

Wet weather, massive blow out, fun memories of athletic park.

No real comparison 96 saw a very, very good Aussie side taken apart by a great AB one in atrocious conditions.

Saturday was a good performance by a promising AB side against an inexperienced rabble on a damp day.

One was a game for the ages. The other will be forgotten very quickly.

But fuck, maybe I'm just in the minority here amd out of touch, and maybe all the average punters really wants is hot chips and a crappy pie. Its certainly the lowest effort and if the $ aren't there from changing then I guess why would they?

My issue with the stadium would be the poor viewing.

Maybe every test should be played at Albany? Proper footy stadium - great viewing. You can get sushi, caesar salads and hot brisket rolls and it'll hold 26,000 ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nothing, they're great! It was just very noticeable the age gap between the graying Sammy, and the young bucks like Hoskins

Rectangular stadia make a difference for rugby watching- it's just better. Athletic park was good for that too, aside from the weather

@nzzp I'd argue that they got the orientation of the ground wrong at Albany. Main stand should be the western to mitigate the prevailing wind. Still a very good stadium to watch footy.

Haven't been to FB but I'm told its fucking cold but creates a great atmosphere. On the bucket list.

Was at Rugby Park for Maori victory over Lions in 05. Reminded me of a small English football ground - in a good way. Was disappointing in that I was on my own and had to drive back to Akl straight after the game so was unable to enjoy the many .... delights.... that Hamilton has to offer

Bankwest easily the best rugby stadium in NSW for watching a game. Dare I say not a bad seat in the house?

If you're in Sydney for ABs v Argies on 14th November I highly recommend it. I might even see if I'm free to go Argies v Wobs in December.

I took a drive out to Forsyth Barr when I was there in the summer of 2019 and have it on my list for a Tahs game some day.

Wasn't there meant to be a stand on the western side too? Lack of demand and budget probably ended that idea.

I first went to NHS in the late 90s before Westfield Albany really existed. Even the surrounding roads weren't fully developed then, and we parked on an unsealed Don McKinnon Dr from memory.

I want to go there at some stage too. I did manage to attend a rugby game at Carisbrook (Otago vs Lions, 2005) before it was pulled down.

The sheer cost of securing the contract means they sell the cheapest food at the highest possible mark-up.

I load up before these days.

@Bovidae If you're talking Albany, the current main stand is on the Southern side. There was a long term plan to mirror it on the norther side which has the embankments and groundworks in place to make this possible.

However Super rugby arrived and hard to justify for one low interest Super game a season and an AB Tier 2 game once a decade. SA in 2017 was the exception but was the first AB test for 12 years. Since Albany opened the AB's have played there 7 times (without losing). In the same period they have played at Twickenham (excluding 5 RWC games) 12 times.

@dogmeat Yes, I meant on the opposite side to the main grandstand.

If you look on google maps the playing field seems to be more SW to NE.

@Bovidae In terms of strict orientation you are probably right, but the prevailing wind sweeps in from the Massey Uni side. Too late now but IMO that would have been the better side to build the main stand. I think they oriented it the way it is because there were plans to use the number two ground for a cricket stadium using the grandstand for corporate facilities.

    He acted like he scored

i thought he looked sheepish until other came to him to celebrate

Just watched it again, I personally donโ€™t think Coles reaction had anything to do with the actual decision and how the TMO and ref dealt with it.

I would too if I was going with the lads, but would be nice if it was a better experience for the kids. I like the HT load up as a concept.
