It was Singapore wasn't it? Anyhoo, that's what you get when you force an alien team on the local populace. Anyone remember the ANBL's Singapore Slingers?

Sounds like everyone apart from Skudder and Proctor will be fit to tackle the Force on Friday. In that case we should have Cridge, Renton, Lloyd all available. Where are these blokes, they haven't been mentioned as being injured in any of the Canes media stories. Are they just not good enough to make the top 23?

They (or at least Cridge and Renton) were mentioned as being injured in an article back around Feb 20th and were reported as being available soon.

2015 or 2016? Come to think of it either year would be correct.

Don't be surprised if Cridge fronts up in the Hurricanes Development side in a game coming up very soon. The other two (Renton and Lloyd) must almost qualify for life membership of the Wheelchair Blacks given their almost permanent "unavailable for selection because of injury" status.

What about the also almost always non selected Iopu Iopu Aso. Has he retired or is he collecting ACC payments?

To be fair H Renton and Cridge are both 20 so no real need to rush them unless we hit an injury crisis. Boyd said he saw these guys as the future Read and Whitelock of the Hurricanes so we will see how good they match up when they finally hit the paddock.

That's my point are they or aren't they??. The injury list for the Canes recently has only consisted of Proctor, Coles, Broadhurst, Motu'u. No mention of Cridge/Renton/Lloyd so a guess they aren't apart of the injury crisis. Hopefully we will find out more this week. Regarding Iopu Iopu Aso he was in a sling on "Pre Season With The Hurricanes" so id say he is out for a while.

Renton was not considered for the NZ U20s due to injury so assume he's still on the injury list and the media don't bother mentioning him because he's been there since maybe 2013?

I cannot accept whatever reason the Hurricanes management proffer for Renton's WTG contract held last season being upgraded to a full contract when he has been unavailable for selection because of injury since way back when. About the only thing you can say is he hasn't exactly played his way out!!!!!! Then again there is nothing he has done to display he is worthy of being included on the gravy train that the being part of the Hurricanes seems to be becoming with the plethora of permanently injured players being offered contracts.

I guess "potential" is a big factor in the re-signing of Renton. I guess they believe he has a big future in the Canes jersey and don't want to risk losing him to another franchise if they leave him out in the cold. They did that with Sam McNicol and now hes at the Chiefs.

And nothing to stop Renton doing likewise. Having said that I'm sure he will do his best to repay the loyalty the Canes have shown in him if he does ever PROVE he is worthy of taking a place in a Super rugby squad.

Hugh Renton is still to make his first-class debut.

I wonder how many other players in NZ rugby have been selected by a NZ Super Rugby team without having played any first-class rugby?

Only one I can think of is Akira Ioane last year for the Blues (first-class debut Blues v Chiefs, opening match of 2015).

Anyone else?

Probably more common now with NZ U20s players. I'm sure Anton Lienert-Brown played for the Chiefs before he played for Waikato.

not quite the same, but Sam Nock signed with the Blues before he had played ITM Cup, but then played ITM Cup and now Blues.

I expect it will happen a bit more now.
