Article: The Original Rugby Championship - Six Nations 2016

I am already feeling your pain Cookie. Me and a couple of mates were travelling over to the Alps the day of the Scotland v England match and timings meant that we could get to the apartment, do some beer and food shopping and then get to the bar in time for a couple of beers before the game. Of course the bloody flight got delayed, then the Gendarmerie did their impressive best to fuck up the traffic all along the route with the result that we were left trying to listen on the radio over the internet via my mate's 4G phone as we travelled through the night.

Still got some beers in though.
-

Good old Eddie Jones complaining about the Wales (NZ) scrum and ignoring Joe Marler (Al Baxter)

What Wales do, they play the laws very well. I'm quite upset about the way they scrummage. They scrummage illegally. They pre-engage all the time which is against the laws of the game.

What happens in a game of rugby is that they pre-engage because they don't want the contest at the start of the scrum.

They get penalised one or two times at the start of the scrum, but then they get sick of penalising them because if the referee keeps penalising them, then the referee gets criticised.

We really want to have a scrum contest on Saturday as that's an important part of the game, so we're really hopeful the referee enforces the law in that area.

So you think they've been scrummaging illegally all Six Nations?

Absolutely 100%. Terribly illegally. You're not allowed to pre-engage, that's part of the law. But they do it and they consistently do it, but they only get penalised at the start of the game because if you're Wayne Barnes or Craig Joubert and you keep penalising Wales for pre-engaging, then what will all the smart guys in the commentators box say?

I thought exactly the same thing when I heard Jones' comments. The art of deflection. :)
-

Yeah I feel a bit shite about this. I've long disliked Gatland's penchant for pre-match whining and now we have Eddie doing it on our behalf. Not a good look. Mind you in regard to the pre-engagement thing, Adam Jones (former Wales prop) pretty much agreed with Eddie and said he hopes current incumbent Samson Lee pushes the boundaries even further, so maybe Eddie has a point. If so though I'd still rather he kept it to the pre match discussion with the officials instead of having a very public whinge. McBryde was doing his part for Wales in the press too.

All a bit pathetic.
-

The Irish selection for this weekend is the final nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned for Schmidt ever coaching a NZ Super rugby team, let alone NZ.

Just awful.

Hmm. That awful selection just lit up Lansdowne Road with another score - a length of the field multi passing move that gave Ireland its fourth try before half-time.

25-3 -
Earls a revelation in this game. Italy falling apart as Ireland are running everything at them.

Try number 7 just down after a speedy barging run from Cronin.

46-3 after 55 mins. -

Quite looking forward to the Eng Wales battle (appropriate word I think)

To reference another thread, if a draw is like kissing your sister, then picking a team to support might be like judging your sisters in a swimwear competition...

I'm only really interested because of their friends.;)
-
Ireland finish it out with nine tries in all.

58-15 at full time. -

Yeah credit where credit due. Although Italy were even worse than usual. But you can only play what is in front of you and that was a good performance. Still don't think it justifies some of the selections eg McFadden -

Wales are a mess. No real enthusiasm even, People not even running on to the ball

Not sure if its England doing that or not, but the white team are playing well (and have a few deadset twats - Brown, Haskell, blue headed winger)

The new lock is destined to be a star - you poms have got a special one there
-

England win 25-21. Wales left it too late.

Mario Itoje had an absolute stormer. He looks World Class already, but I suspect his long-term future is at 6 rather than Lock. He could develop into one of England's greatest ever players.
