i agree. There's potential for corruption in the police like everywhere else in society.

The original comment was kinda tongue in cheek (hence the fishing emoji) and aimed to get mn5 all fired up.

But his blind assumption that the police are above all that stuff made me carry it on a bit more

I don't have the same kind of faith in every single member of the police. Some of them are corrupt arseholes others are hardworking and honest.

David tamiheri deserves a retrial though..... He's more innocent than David Bain, Lundy and Scott Watson -

I doubt that, he did time for murder and was one the run after being charged with rape and home invasion when he killed the backpackers.
-

Like I said, I doubt that. He's out of jail now unfortunately, maybe you could drop round for a cup of tea and chat about being his Joe Karam?

Alternatively the odds on another person capable of double murder and rape being in the exact same area at the same time as the backpackers and Tamihere who was on the run for rape and had already murdered someone must be astronomical and we'll just assume that the cops probably got the right guy.
-

Heard of huia foley?

After escaping from a mental hospital He attacked a catholic priest in waihi just prior to the murders.

Then escaped into the bush.

It's well known he was on the same bush tracks as the two swedes at the time they disappeared.

A few weeks later he turns up in whitianga with a European brand sleeping bag. Where he robbed a couple with a baseball bat and stole their car.

There are 2 confirmed reports of him confessing to the crime before his death.

So there's at least one other -

An Ian Wishart theory, I'll pass on that. If he said it was raining I'd check outside to make sure.

You're probably right.

Thanks for agreeing with me though :)

I will say that having read the latest on Ben and Olivia I'm a lot more convinced by wisharts stance on tamiheri than Scott Watson. -

OK, but why state that the entire force is corrupt and incompetent?

And you do understand why we're raising our eyebrows when on the one hand you maintain the police should have shot Wallace in the leg, and on the other hand all the police are corrupt? What exactly are you trying to say Sammy, that they had a choice, and chose to murder Wallace? Because that's what you're implying.
-

I generally agree with your guys stances on the flag, vaccines and climate change. I'm actually gonna admit I learnt a lot from the climate change thread.

But I disagree on matters involving the Chiefs, workrate of the blues tight five and police corruption :)

"Why did you shoot my friend?" five-year-old Jayden Prior asked a policeman moments after he had watched him kill Stephen Bellingham.

Police said several were fired from a Glock pistol, with Mr Bellingham struck by two bullets - one in the leg and one, fatally, in the chest.

Police were called to Mr Bellingham's house on the corner of Trent St and Avonside Drive after receiving reports he had smashed up several cars in the neighbourhood.

Mr Prior and children Jayden, Makayla, and AJ were driving down Stanmore Rd when they saw Mr Bellingham breaking into a parked Subaru Impreza with a claw hammer.

Mr Prior said he and AJ approached Mr Bellingham, who was sitting in the car's passenger seat, and tried to persuade him to stop.

A policeman, aged between 30 and 40, arrived some moments later in a police van.

"He hopped out and yelled 'put the hammer down' about five times."

Mr Bellingham, whom Mr Prior said was quite calm, took a step toward the policeman with the hammer raised.

"Then the cop just shot him dead."

The policeman fired "seven or eight shots, just like on the movies" from a handgun.

"His body was convulsing with each bullet hitting him. It was like something out of Hill Street Blues."

Another witness Chris Young said he saw Mr Bellingham raise the hammer above his head and run towards the police officer.

"He was running toward the officer quite fast and was only a metre away when the officer fired the shots."

He said it was testament to the aggressive nature of the man's approach that the hammer left his hands as he was shot and skidded along the road "a fair way".

"I don't have any doubt that he would have attacked the policeman with it."

He did not think the officer would have had time to run away.

Mr Prior said that from the policeman getting out of his car to the shooting took less than 30 seconds.

"Every shot just took more life out of him. When he fell to the ground he was lifeless."

The policeman "just walked off", Mr Prior said.

"He didn't check the body or anything. He just left him lying on the road like a dog."
-

... On the whole, you might even say they do a reasonable and 99.9999% trustworthy job..........
