2020 Rugby Championship in Oz

Boks looking pretty unlikely. Unbelievable, if true, that they haven't even talked to the players - player welfare my arse
South African rugby journalist Brenden Nel told the Mike Hosking Breakfast on Newstalk ZB that it seems 'very unlikely'.
"I suppose you can't really say until they officially announce it but everything points to the fact that they won't be going," he told Mike Hosking.
"There are trying for one last ditch to shift dates and make it somehow so the South Africans can come. We were on a press conference today with the Bulls and we asked Duane Vermeulen and he said nobody has even spoken to them about the Rugby Championship just yet. If the players don't even know…they would have to be on a plane on Saturday night to begin quarantine so that seems very unlikely," Nel said.

I find it a bit strange, are Argentina already in Australia or close to it? Its not like the SA players don't have access to the internet, every single one of them being professional rugby players would have known about the RC. I can only assume they get a nice playing bonus and trip allowance out if it, I find it odd the players wouldnt have asked the question or spoken to their player union.

Heheh, top stuff. I remember the ACB eventually canned it because the crowds were supporting the underdog young blokes more than the main team.
Great while it lasted though, plus it could work for rugby as well ... y'never know.

Re-read the reply and maybe I read a bit more into it and he knows fuck all:
The Springbok decision will be made tomorrow (Friday). The contingency is still TBC & I’m sure SANZAAR & the Unions are discussing what will occur in the event the Springbok’s do not travel, but this info has not been passed to us, yet, pending the outcome of the SA decision. From what I’ve been reading, there may be a Barbarian XV or a Wallabies ‘A’ Team made up of those that didn’t make the Wallabies’ first-team squad.
What we have heard, however, is that the Bledisloe Cup matches in Sydney (31 Oct) & Brisbane (7 Nov) remain unaffected & will proceed as scheduled.

Looks like it’s confirmed....
-
@Kiwiwomble Nothing on the Springboks website or social media, yet.
-
Reports say the South Africans officially notified Sanzaar of their decision on Thursday night. An announcement is expected on Friday.
-
@Machpants yep, a bit shit!
How strong is the Argie side they have in Aus?
-
@taniwharugby No idea TBH, I’ve not seen a list. It also hasn’t been confirmed exactly how/ when and for how long their NH guys are going to be involved.
No surprise with the Boks, they’ll keep their World No 1 for well over a year now! It’ll be the longest non-ABs time ever, I think. EDIT: It already is - took a pandemic to do it
-
Crucially they've defended their status for a grand total of zero games...

But they’ll have held it for TWO WHOLE YEARS, minimum! Outside of NZ it has never been longer than a few months. An aceivement I am sure will be crowed about.
