On the 13 selection.. First of all it's difficult to guess which way a new coach will go.
Goodhue has played the bulk of his rugby at 12 this year. Remember NZ rugby is hierarchical and sometimes the word comes down from above. Was Goodhue at 12 always in the Crusaders best interest? Plenty of TSFers thought the Crusaders were making an error (including me)
So the North/South game would've been a chance to correct that? The national selectors then pick him at 12 again.Maybe the selectors are picking for a game plan that requires more pace at 13?
Who played 13 in the North South match? R Ioane, Ennor, PUJ & L Faingaanuku. 3 guys that have played the bulk of their rugby on the wing and PUJ who has played in the back three and is fast enough to be a winger
I'll guess the midfield will be ALB/Ioane initially
-
@Duluth If he hasn't already, I think PUJ will make a strong case to be that long term 13. He just looks to be the most natural centre in NZ. He has a great mix of size, speed, and skillset similar to his uncle that is perfect for the game today.
I've said this a few times on the thread aswell that we should also try J Barrett at 12. This means it opens up an opportunity for someone like Jordan to lock down the 15 jersey aswell.

It's a bit like club/franchise coach insists one of his players should be in the test team shocker

If Foster picks Savea at 8 i will be getting the fat effigies out straight away.

Indeed. Would it kill him to hop on the treadmill once in awhile ?

Surely there is no chance Savea starts at 8 over Sotutu? He can't whack on about bringing physicality back then do that, it'd be a mockery.
but the staaaaaaats

I've been following Ben Darwin on twitter, and one of the things he circles back to is combinations - and backs it up with data as well. The theory of "put the best players together" can work, but I'd rather see Rennie look at key combinations.
Keeping in mind I haven't watched much of SRAU at all:
Tate McDermott seems to be head and shoulders above the other options at 9, so he's a definite pick. It therefore stands to reason - using Darwin's theory - that you pick James O'Connor next to him, who has also had a good season behind what is a young but inconsistent pack.
Nic White therefore goes on the bench IMHO. One good game in Perth a year ago and then fuck all since.
Lolesio is a good player, but he's a kid, and will have his chances in future years. You can't really put him on the bench as he doesn't play any other positions.
I've got serious questions about the liability presented by Petaia. The kid could be anything - mostly broken - so what is going on with his S&C work? Start him, see if he breaks (again), and bring on someone else.
Toomua probably sits in 12 at that point as the logical backup 10, and brings experience and another boot to the backline to opt between a bash n barge inside centre as well as second five in the same shirt.
Koroibete picks himself. I'm not convinced that Daugunu is a positive in terms of being able to kick us out of trouble. That's why Banks is at the back, and maybe Wright on the blindside wing.
I've seen various forward packs listed elsewhere, and would probably go for something akin to Paul Cully's pack:
1 Sio
2 Fainga'a
3 Alalaatoa (Cully picked Tupou but nah)
4 Philip
5 LSL
6 Samu
7 Hooper (capt)
8 Wilson
9 McDermott
10 JOC
11 Koroibete
12 Toomua
13 Petaia
14 Wright
15 Banks16 Uelese
17 Slipper
18 Tupou
19 Hosea (big unit - give him a go)
20 Wright
21 White
22 ?Paisami/Simone?
23 Hodge -

@NTA That looks pretty close to the mark. I think i'd have DHP at fullback ahead of Banks - DHP is no good on the wing but a good fullback and more well rounded than Banks to me.
Either Banks fails and I get to tell Brumbies fans (both of them) that he was never worthy despite all their jizzmatic explanations supporting his selection, or he succeeds and I get a Bledisloe win.
There's no loser here.

Is bled 2 at ASB stadium?
Auckland council don't really let you have anything. In spite of the fact that you own the place and pay them shit loads for rates for which you receive no services. That should also read consents not concerts. They don't allow them either. In spite of a housing crisis apparently.
Set me off briefly there.
As for the rugby - if that is the Aussie team it won't be like like England where we got smashed off the park. I like that our coach has recognised that though, and selection gets more interesting. Loosies in particular, we don't have much choice at lock.
