    It’s only fucken Australia.

this is the sort of shit that comes back to haunt matey. Be careful...

Tongue was 100% in cheek when I wrote this. They’re always capable of tripping the ABs up.

My guess in answering the question.

The first assessment will be the make up of his team selection. Everyone will have an opinion as always, but if something not as expected and players out of position then their will be comments.
Second assessment will be on how we play. I don't think he has to win by a lot, but if we lose there will be drums beating.
If we lose and also in combination with some random selection that not everyone agreed with, then likely double barrel.
If we win a tight match and looks like team adjusting to first game together, he will get a pass and I think that will give him some breathing space. But if they don't see improvement the following week then murmurs will start.
If we win by a lot, he will likely get a pass by most, where others still will argue, he got lucky with previous coach combinations.

Unlikely to have everyone on board regardless, but if they put in a strong aggressive effort, I think most will be ok.

This year is a write off, so he has the opportunity to try something new. Will be disappointed if the team is too safe.

Players like Clarke and Sotutu should be starting, and I’d like to see a clear direction for six.

New Coach in his first match? No chance on not being safe. Who would do that? That would be so arrogant and I would like that but surely SURELY he's not that silly.

Have to pick the best players and those in form.

Not necessarily, you have to select the best combinations for the team. Sometimes that is reverting to type. I think it will be safe as houses.

That’s what I’m predicting as well, I don’t think he has it in him to take a selection risk.

The kinds that gave us Wilson and Lomu at 19.

In the first match of the season by a new coach? That's excellent if so.

Nope. Just means he trying not to lose instead of trying to win, helps Oz IMO.

I think his squad selections were pretty much bang on - except I didn't have Vaa'i anywhere in the frame - so he's going OK so far.

If he starts with a loss then the critics will pile in, immediately. But, I will be prepared to write it off as a hiccup.

However, if he fails to retain the Bledisloe, he should be fired.

In reality, those odds reflect the expectation that we should win comfortably.

Yeah, safe, and who can blame a coach for doing that in his first ever game.

A loss really wouldn't surprise me though. It would certainly raise my eyebrows at fulltime but I wouldn't be fully surprised.

Fozzie might get out-coached first up.

I just want to see a clear distinction from the Hansen years in team selection. So that means picking the best players for each position, not the best 15 players and finding a position for them. I'm not expecting major changes but the selection at 6, 8, 10 and the wingers will demonstrate if the 2020 ABs are different from the 2019 iteration.

Both Foster and Plumtree have stated that the forwards lacked mongrel in the loss to England so select a forward pack that provides this, and some backs that can bend the defensive line at 13 and 11.

Who's fluffed him anywhere on this thread? I don't know of anyone that actually wanted him to get the gig

6 and 8 obviously have to change anyway and I fully expect to see a harder edge there.
10 is a harder one. Does Fozzie lay any blame for last year with RM? Is BB seen as a 10 that plays like a 15 or a 15 that doesn't want to be there.

For me the difference won't be in personnel it will be in a subtle change in emphasis on style. Hansen liked to move the ball at speed away from the contact areas. If you could shut down that speed of movement you stopped our main advantage.
I suspect that the new lot will look to earn the right to attack a bit more by having a more breakdown dominant game.
However, the law emphasis changes we have seen this year would suit Hansen best.

Those interpretations were limited to SR Aotearoa weren't they?
