Serves Garden Bachop right for trying to chip over a simple field goal haha.

Pretty telegraphed, JGB stuck with the move even when it wasn't on, pretty dumb

Garden Bachop you clown. Couldn't have done more to lose that if you tried.

    I knew that would happen.

Renata should have taken the DG attempt because he can make those. JGB - nah!

JGB shouldn't have taken the drop goal. Wellington were hot on attack and the defenders were tired. Only 15 out so they should have backed themselves.

Useless JGB. FFS, Wellington threw this game away by silly unforced errors. But the last pass was extra stupid

Hopefully there's a young first who can be given a run

@Bovidae Haha, I was so looking at where all the backs were standing, trying to figure out what they'd do after the scrum, that I hardly looked at the scrum itself.

Ha, that negative play really did bite Canterbury in the bum.

Yep, we thoroughly deserved that. I'd like to know who's call it was to play such shit, negative footy.

Beautiful Isia Punivai good finish from another 20 year old pup ,7 players 20 year old or younger in that squad of 23.

I'd assume that too, but you just don't know what they've been coached to do.

    Anyway, a few thoughts.

Impressive effort by Klein to stay out there. I guess the coaches were a little loathe to bring on all the pre-schoolers on the bench. Throwing not great though: called for one not straight and got away with another late in the game.

I thought there was a tiny knock on by Fidow in that third (?) Wellington try. As he attempts to scoop the ball up it goes down off the fingertips and bounces back up into his hands.

We didn't seem to have any ability to create anything in the midfield, albeit in limited opportunities. We certainly have some issues in the backs and the midfield is absolutely key to that, but I think Poihipi and N Punivai is our best combination with McLeod out so I'd stick with them.

The young props coming in should stand us in good stead for SR, assuming the Highlanders don't pinch them. For SR we get Moody and Ala'alatoa back, plus Jager and Harry Allan, maybe Bower also. Add the promising Brewis and Newell to the mix and the next gen might be sorted.

This is good stuff, even if it isn't enough to carry us to a title this year. Brewis, Newell, Mellow, Darry, Fihaki, I Punivai and Williams?

Oh yeah, and I had meant to add that Garden-Bachop's droppie attempt was the most half-hearted kick I think I've ever seen in that situation. Someone described it as a chip and that's what it was. A bloody mile away from a full blooded attempt.
