CBHS beat Goon HS today, and STAC beat St Bedes in a close one. The two best sides will now meet in the final. St Bede's only really notable win this season was against Christ's around midway through the season before Christ's form really dropped away.
CBHS have improved as the season has gone on while STAC declined during and after a 9/9 start but have regained some form latterly. STAC beat CBHS in a TV game which acted as the curtain-raiser to a Crusaders game, so this should be a ding dong battle.

Good game, the UC final. CBHS had the benefit of a strong Northerly at their backs in the first half and got out to a 20-0 lead. I thought STAC were stuffed at that stage, and expected those CBHS floggers to run away with it. But STAC came back and scored two quick tries to go into the break at 14-20. In the second stanza St Andrews took full advantage of the breeze and played some good football. I thought Boys High still had them at set piece but STAC had belief, and their 10 controlled things manfully.

I didn't see the game so will try to watch a replay. I note that Rod McIntosh is STAC's Director of High Performance Sport. I remember him when he played for Waikato in the late 1980s to early 1990s, out of the now defunct Ngāruawāhia club. He later spent some time playing and coaching in HK.

I have watched a replay of the UC Championship final, paying particular attention to the players that were selected for the NZ Schools squad. This highlights the difficulty of comparing players in completely separate competitions because I don't believe there can be much co-ordination from the selectors amongst the regions.

A summary of the season, or lack of, for some regions.
