    @Frank I thought the 1st 2 Bled games were in NZ mid-October?

    Are they?
    Oh well....that's that theory gone.

Loss of key players but they are full strength.

Imagine how you'd feel if you opted out, and then NZ lost the Bledisloe. The pain would be super brutal.

I'm going to sound old school here, but I think the player should be going, and it needs to be something really significant to not go. Having a young family isn't enough. These boys are paid at the level of CEO, there are obligations that come with that money. This isn't a moral question to me, it's a tradeoff. BB is the only one who may get a pass - having an incoming baby is a different beast; that's a real risk to health. But the rest - need a damn good reason to not get out and do your job.

@nzzp yeah was reading the article as it is a tight turnaround from quarantine to play and then next game...still more spanners out there.

@nzzp I agree. BB aside, the rest of those pussies should harden up and go.

I don't mind them staying with their families , but they need to take a MASSIVE pay cut for not playing the games we need them in. Otherwise, what is the fucking point.

Then we'll see how important family considerations are.
I predict the wives will kick them out to play.

@Frank In a normal year they would be away for 5 weeks anyway on the EOYT. A couple of extra weeks is not too much to ask for given the circumstances.

Aren't they saying it will be ten weeks under the current arrangement?

@Hooroo You might be right but I still think an extra 5 weeks is something that is not too much to ask for considering how much of additional time they have been able to spend with their families already due to the lockdowns and domestic games.

The irony is in 20 years time a lot of these guys would welcome the time away from home

Well I am all for canning the RC this year so am happy to support the players wishes. It's become a international bore where the NPC seems to have some spark in it finally.

In a rugby sense, yep. In a financial sense it's critical to actually having meaningful professional rugby - internationals are where the money is at. We have to have some, or fall even further behind the NH (who are playing a bunch this year).

What's annoying is that it has taken this long to still not lock in some dates, locations and fixtures.

That's fair. I still think we can live without it for one year.

@Hooroo I think part of that is the expectation of sitting in quarantine upon return to NZ which pushes it out into Christmas.

No he's not, he's saying he won't play on the 10th, but ok with 17th due to prep time. Ardern said today that they'll work something out, as Ozzie covid risk profile lower. I maybe they won't have that full quarantine requirement that was listed for RC.

That's fine as long as the guys that refuse to go don't get paid.

Like @Machpants I've worked all days of the year, long periods away from home (and yes been shot at).

I call it a "job" (not the being shot at bit).

@Snowy esp think that if they don't go they take a big financial hit. That's not playing in 75% of ABs tests, they certainly shouldn't get their full hundreds of thousands

I'm pretty sure there will be a pay hit

Years ago it was mentioned the contracts were structured with a base rate plus additional money for assembling for certain blocks of Tests
    eg June Tests/RC/EOYT

@Duluth Has to be. If you don't go to work / play then you don't get paid.
Denial of labour / strike is too harsh but effectively what they are doing.

Really shouldn't be caps for second teamers either, although we do that fairly regularly.

As for the time away - Imagine being abroad for 6 months in 1924 like my great uncle (and namesake on here). No pay.
