In a devastating day for tennis, Maria Sharapova, one of the hottest players ever, retired today
oh yeah, she won 5 grand slams as well, could play a bit
Stayed a couple of doors down from me during Wimbledon three years ago. Made looking out from breakfast interesting!

Last one taken this year with hubby Enrique Iglesias (for RL's benefit only)
How about Enrique here - manages to hang on to Anna while still using a chain wallet. It's probably velcro too. A true hero of our time.
He's living the dream. Everyday

@dogmeat didn't look like he hit it very hard at all, but I guess if it hits the Adam's apple straight on itd hurt.
Will the line judge be in a neck brace and be suing?
He should sue her for having such poor reactions, costing him millions in prizemoney

Djokovic has been disqualified from the US Open for hitting a line judge in the throat with a ball he despatched in a fit of temper. It was accidental but apparently you could hear her choking through the sound effects mic.
Pretty sure that wouldn't have happened if Federer made same mistake. Absurd decision.

Was he looking straight at her or was it just a random act? Seems a little heavy handed, especially if it was an accident. the US Open just became even more irrelevant right now

yup - few cms either way and it's a non event. Def no intent
But rules are rules. If you hit the ball and it strikes an official you're toast. Intent and / or consequences aren't considered.
Fucking shit way to lose (presumably) the tournament though.
Reminds me of John McEnroe getting DQ'ed vs Mikhail Pernfors in the Aussie Open for cracking his tennis racquet

Given how much power these pro players can generate, it never looks like much, but it is.
@dogmeat tournament is wide open now. Medvedev looks to have a favourable draw.
