@antipodean where did the ref say this. I might have missed it, but he explained that he's opinion is the maul was over and the players Infront of the ball carriers caused obstruction. that's what he explained to the captain

Actually you raise a point and I should in all fairness respond: I don't recall what the ref said, I just saw Laulala's infringement and @Tim saw the same thing, so call it confirmation bias.

The problem with your interpretation is all the defence has to do is wheel around the base of the maul and the attackers would be obliged to follow them around. Ultimately until they were driving a maul towards their own try line.

Hence why a maul can splinter and continue to drive forwards.

    Decent game in the end.
Glad it wasnโ€™t decided by the held up try that the ref didnโ€™t bother to check. The Lead changed 7 times the comms were saying. Bet that doesnโ€™t happen that often.

Bridge and Reese were fucking anonymous.
Clarke, Jordan and Ioane should be the AB wings.
Hopefully Clarke learns from that tap back to Jordan.
IMO the โ€œJordan on the wing = defensive issuesโ€ line is a myth. Especially when compared with the other contenders who are no where near perfect.

Good to see Sotutu return and play well. Akira was a bit disappointing really.

Dmac was better than he has been but Jordie is way ahead now.

Lineout throwing from whoever the 3rd choice hooker is has got to be high on the โ€œwork onโ€ list.

Hard to make a call on the hyped battle of the 10s.
The South played mostly through their forwards and RM missed a chunk of the game for an HIA then got subbed so didnโ€™t feature much.
BB was ok and had some decent touches but didnโ€™t impact the game a hell of a lot. He just seems to look a bit old.
Hopefully he can find his form again. This disrupted season and next years sabbatical arenโ€™t going to help unfortunately.

Don't think Roane or Aoane did themselves any favours today. Reiko had a couple of nice touches though and was still the best 13 on display.

Awesome to see Sotutu step up with ease. What can't he do?

How many pens and fuck ups from Ardie?

    DMac is just utter shit.

Nice to see ALB get a little bit of form back.

A Smith didn't have his greatest game.

    Ridiculous take

He was involved in 3 of the 5 north tries. Easily one of the norths best today. Amazing how you got 'utter shit' from that.

    Thanks, I'm pretty amazing.

How many times did he meekly turn the ball over or completely destroy any attacking play whilst losing ground? He played exactly the way he's played all year - makes the odd break or two if others put him away, but more often than not runs across field completely killing any of his teammates opportunities.

    DMac over Jordie ๐Ÿ˜‚

    For me - yes.

DMac made a number of the Norths attacks and while Jordie was a key player for the South with his kicking and size/strength when attacking, Jordie also had a period in the first half where he made a few mistakes and went quiet for 10 minutes. I'll rewatch later and make a note of when but the South were on attack around the 30 minute mark and there were back-to-back mistakes by Jordie that cost momentum.

My concern around Jordie is that he gives you a try most of the time but costs you a try more often if he hits one of those quiet periods so DMac is a little safe. He has improved this year and I would certainly want to see more of him as a utility back pressing for the starting 15 spot against some teams, but I would take DMac ahead of him on today's game.

    @PecoTrain it's like I'm in reverse world.

Last year I would have agreed with you but this year Jordie has gone from strength to strength and I would say has well and truly shaken off his erratic tag while DMac has gone so far the other way it's not funny.

I can genuinely only remember one mistake which was the pass to ground, other than that he was consistently putting other players in open space as well as creating opportunities for himself.

There is clear bias involved here if you think his game today was 'utter shit'. He was easily top 5 on the north team. If he was utter shit today, literally 25/30 other players on the pitch must be abysmal to you.

I can only think of external factors if you watched that game today and thought he was 'utter shit'.

I can only think of clear bias if you watched an experienced AB play like that today and didn't think he was playing utter shit (for him). He runs across field, and unless he's put into space by someone else generally kills the attack. The most obvious one, he had three glaringly better options than running across to the sideline and popping an utter shit pass to no-one. Three! An experienced AB. He chose the fourth utter shit option. At test level, that is what all his less noticeable meanders to nowhere will result in.

But you make a good point, Mitch Hunt might be the safer option.

    Oh and welcome aboard!

Funny how the most obvious incident was the ONLY incident as well (the same incident you keep bringing up). Almost as if no other mistakes were made by him tonight ๐Ÿ˜‚

    Who disappointed?

Aumua, Perenera, Sevu Reece, Akira Ioane, Ofa T, Bridge, Both Hunts. (All played better in SRA).

Who surprised in a positive way?

Tom Christie. I thought he looked excellent.

Jordie Barrett. So much better this season.

Yeah sorry for not going back and citing all the incidents. I'll probably do a rewatch but not immediately after on a Saturday morning.
