@Bovidae Yeah - if I was picking a South team to win the game, I would have started Jordie and Jack in the midfield. But, it had a fair few AB trial elements.

Pretty sure they're looking at Jordan to play wing - they've got Jordie, Beaudie and DMac as fullback options - even if they reckon they want BB to play first five. And even though DMac hasn't shown much form, he'll probably make it.

    One.

But we are going to have to give Clarke a bit of credit for that too - and I’d totally select Clarke, he was awesome.

    You sure?

I'd be tempted to call just that play as 2. Plenty of space on the outside, as well as Roane running a big hole on the inside line. DMac does a DMac.

I feel sorry for that trophy. Destined to be used in bizarre docking antics

The lineout throwing in this game has been attrocious

Looked a normal windy Welly night, so throwing short should’ve been the order of the day.

No idea, I was watching it with my 2-year old son, posting here, and drinking high balls. If you’re looking for learned evaluation, you’re probably replying to the wrong person.

Oh also...how many super rugby and AB games for Clarke Vs DMac? I can easily forgive Clarke there. DMac is supposed to be a seasoned vet and has spent this year looking like anything but. I expect much, much more.

Not the smokey of having at least one Barrett in black, that would be a shocker!

    I agree about that.

He will I hope; he’s going to be a long-term AB IMO. Has the skills to go to the midfield later too.

Yep, it's quite windy in Wellington.

My best 15 of the day.

    1. Joe Moody
    2. Codie Taylor
    3. Nepo Laulala
    4. Samuel Whitelock (captain)
    5. Patrick Tuipulotu
    6. Shannon Frizell
    7. Tom Christie
    8. Hoskins Sotutu
    9. TJ Perenara
    10. Beauden Barrett
    11. Caleb Clarke
    12. Anton Lienert-Brown
    13. Rieko Ioane
    14. Will Jordan
    15. Damian McKenzie

Pretty hard on Dunshea, Saunders, Ardie, Mo'unga and Jordie who all had good games but think their opposites did enough to edge them out. For Jordie, he does so much right but there are still mistakes under pressure and I think DMac has the edge in terms of decision making/mobility for reacting to defensive breakdowns.

@antipodean where did the ref say this. I might have missed it, but he explained that he's opinion is the maul was over and the players Infront of the ball carriers caused obstruction. that's what he explained to the captain

Actually you raise a point and I should in all fairness respond: I don't recall what the ref said, I just saw Laulala's infringement and @Tim saw the same thing, so call it confirmation bias.

The problem with your interpretation is all the defence has to do is wheel around the base of the maul and the attackers would be obliged to follow them around. Ultimately until they were driving a maul towards their own try line.

Hence why a maul can splinter and continue to drive forwards.

    Decent game in the end.
Glad it wasn’t decided by the held up try that the ref didn’t bother to check. The Lead changed 7 times the comms were saying. Bet that doesn’t happen that often.

Bridge and Reese were fucking anonymous.
Clarke, Jordan and Ioane should be the AB wings.
Hopefully Clarke learns from that tap back to Jordan.
IMO the “Jordan on the wing = defensive issues” line is a myth. Especially when compared with the other contenders who are no where near perfect.

Good to see Sotutu return and play well. Akira was a bit disappointing really.

Dmac was better than he has been but Jordie is way ahead now.

Lineout throwing from whoever the 3rd choice hooker is has got to be high on the “work on” list.

Hard to make a call on the hyped battle of the 10s.
The South played mostly through their forwards and RM missed a chunk of the game for an HIA then got subbed so didn’t feature much.
BB was ok and had some decent touches but didn’t impact the game a hell of a lot. He just seems to look a bit old.
Hopefully he can find his form again. This disrupted season and next years sabbatical aren’t going to help unfortunately.
